Where's Crusher Collins when you need her?

I believe the Police do not have the power to order them off the sea or enter their house or do any manner of things, unless they have reason to believe they are infected. IANAL, but I believe that is a barrier. It would be very easy to order them from the waves to A) help the lockdown and B) get good PR, but I dont think they can do that lawfully.

There's actually been a notice which has the force of law under the Health Act which officially has banned acts such as surfing. And can we please take the politics out of this forum? "Crusher Collins", or any politician for that matter, have no relevance to this topic.

It doesn't matter who the Police Minister is: by constitutional convention, cabinet ministers cannot direct the operational practices of the police, e.g. who they arrest or not or how they enforce the law, and/or what discretion they apply.

As a follow-up, I would love to have gone for a fishing trip or two.
It's been awesome weather and flat seas. Perfect days.
In contrast with the days before the lockdown it was marginal at best.

Sigh. Typical.

As long as the Police order them out of the sea, let the surfers argue later if they wish whether it's strictly lawful or not. Now isn't the time for legal niceties, we are at war whether we like it or not!

Thanks. Does the notice that Dr Bloomfield brought into action on 3 April, allow the Police to order people from the waves? What I just posted was from what I read very recently, but it may not have accounted for that. May have been a journo recycling "hot" news

Interesting conversation with one of our neigbours yesterday. I now realise that preventing virus spread will be more difficult than I have been imagining (well the conversation + TV footage from Kaitaia and of Kava parties etc).

Though we are 'rural', the neighbouring property has 6 mostly single person dwelling units on it. Have never spoken more than a couple of words with the woman before but I needed to notify her of emergency work about to be done on a couple of wattle trees near the boundary as we were recently advised that they are a 'significant danger' to the unit she lives in. She is an essential service, old age care worker and seems intelligent enough - just 'a bit alternative'. But interesting conversation, snippets from which went along the lines:

"Oh, they don't bother me ... I love all trees ..."
Re lockdown situation ... "I'm really ecstatic [her word] ... the world will be so much better ... pollution is very bad"
"... the virus has nothing to do with it ... all the sickness is due to pollution in the air ..."
"the damage happening to peoples lungs is due to the pollution, not any virus ..."
In response to my "at least we are fortunate living here in the countryside" - "its everywhere" pointing around a the perfectly blue sky and air around us
Then some mention about Trump - I initially thought she was running him down but it later became clear she is very much in favour of his actions as it will lead to a better world

Being in an at risk age bracket (in 70's), I tried to keep at least 2-3 m clear but each time I moved a bit further away, she moved a bit closer. Mostly managed to keep 2+ m clear and at least no sign of cough or other symptom.

Given her views and actions, clearly she does not believe in any virus risk. And this in an old age care worker just returned from work in a rest home. A bit of a worry.

I personally agree, but the law is the law, it has to be done lawfully. We dont live in a Police State.

I noticed PM Jacinda Ardern will be speaking at 1pm alongside Bloomfield at the MoH update. Is this a first? I'm guessing its because we'll pass 1,000 cases today. So she'll no doubt have something to say on that.

You are wrong and here is the evidence.

Section 70(1)(f) Health Act Order:

Limited recreation purposes

e.iii. it does not involve swimming, water-based activities (for example surfing or boating), hunting, tramping, or other activities of a kind that expose participants to danger or may require search and rescue services.

Under s 71A, I request that constables do anything reasonably necessary to assist in ensuring compliance with this order. This includes, but is not limited to:

- preventing or reducing the extent of the doing of a thing that a Medical Officer of Health, or any person authorised by a Medical Officer of Health, has forbidden or prohibited in this order or otherwise in the exercise of performance of powers of functions under s 70.

Yep, sighs for many of us. But home we stay, got to do our bit. All those drops will fill the bucket. Ive done some boring gardening, and boring chores. But its sunny, look on the bright side of life. Ill have a few cold ones in the sun later, by myself, reading GZ threads. Too awkward to reply on the phone, probably a good thing that!

That's the same supply-chain problems that electronics people have been dealing with for a decade or more when dealing with Chinese-made electronics, if you can do a cheap fake of something or cut out safety/reliability features to save cost it'll be done. It'll be totally bargain-priced, but also crap - google "chinesium". So you need to either buy directly from a known-good vendor and supplier (e.g. for power supplies Meanwell via Element14/Farnell) or field-qualify anything that's shipped to you.
