The data on that is still patchy, but I read through a number of articles and it seems like somewhere around 50% of patients who make it to the ICU succumb to the disease. Here's an example of an article

https://www.theguardian.com/society/2020/mar/28/coronavirus-intensive-care-uk-patients-50-per-cent-survival-rate

Data from the Intensive Care National Audit and Research Centre (ICNARC) showed that of 165 patients treated in critical care in England, Wales and Northern Ireland since the end of February, 79 died, while 86 survived and were discharged. The figures were taken from an audit of 775 people who have been or are in critical care with the disease, across 285 intensive care units. The remaining 610 patients continue to receive intensive care.

But I don't think there are firm numbers yet.

I know it's really bad to say but if he does not make it out of this then I really hope it opens peoples eyes on how bad this really is and can happen to anyone that does not follow what is being suggested by medical staff / government.

Unfortunatelly Trump should be the example for the USA. His complete disregard for anything closely related to "personal protection" is astounding.

If this doesn't paint a grim picture: "More than 10,000 people in the US have died from coronavirus."

So apparently my local bakery is open. I know the PM said bakers and fruit and veg shops could be open for online / phone and contactless delivery orders iirc. So i'm assuming I have to phone up if I want to order? I cant just rock up and get a mean pie and sausage roll for lunch? Google isnt being much help beyond saying their open.

I thought they are only open for deliveries.  Just like the butchers.  Contactless only

iamaelephant , Policyguy

Boris Johnson will certainly get the very best of care.
Reports seems to say that the move to ICU is precautionary.
  He is not on ventilator.

There is anecdotal evidence that some people can  downhill so rapidly they die before getting transferred to ICU .
Before this they look like they are stable , even feel like they are recovering.
I think there are stories of people in Wuhan being sent home and and gone the next day.

Having him there in ICU and on watch means he can be quickly " intubated" if necessary.

  This Covid19 is truly nasty.

So many ways you may think you are in a healthy low % chance group, even recovering, and it will still reach out and grab you.

Be careful out there no matter your age and disposition.

  Pete.

Edit  ( I usually blame auto-correct  , but among friends I can own up , incubated deleted ,  replaced with intubated )

Though spell checker does not like that word.

How this event has expanded our vocabularies.

The God-Emperor is "perfect" and invulnerable, and therefore does not need protection.  😐

How does NZ’s Covid-19 response stack up?

Good comparison of New Zealand current status vs comparable countries.

Some of the best graphs I have seen are the ones from the Financial Times and posted on twitter by John Burn-Murdoch.
https://twitter.com/jburnmurdoch

Here he is answering questions of why they use log scales, why they use raw numbers rather than a percentage of population and other questions.

https://twitter.com/janinegibson/status/1244519429825802240

Most of their graphs for case numbers start on the day of the 100th case, which helps remove a lot of the noise from the first few cases in the early phase of the virus first entering the country.

Most of the graphs are available here (free access for these pages):
https://www.ft.com/coronavirus-latest

Unfortunately not much on New Zealand so far, but perhaps since we now 2 weeks past our 100th case (102 cases on the 23rd March), we might soon appear on some of those graphs.

I don't know what would be more worrying for me: extremely high or extremely low trends in the number of public cases. Especially if the number of tests per inhabitant is only slightly above the current value of Spain.

Good grief. Surely there are more important questions to ask!

Edit - ref today's press conference.
