No, I am just deeply suspicious when press releases are dumped last thing on a Friday.

If the contracts were actioned much earlier, can I assume my predictions won’t occur?

Dingbatt:

Just out of interest Mauricio, when did you receive the latest press release? By your time stamp was it some time between 5 and 5.30 on a Friday afternoon? Sometimes known as the “Flush Zone” where the bureaucrat hits the “send” button and then goes home for the weekend. Too late for the six o’clock news and no one can be contacted anyway. By Monday things have moved on.

I've noticed it around 5.25pm. I don't know what time it was released.

Dingbatt:

I’d like to know why this wasn’t actioned weeks, if not months ago? And certainly be to the ‘Release Candidate’ stage by now.

How do you know it's not being tested already? I don't know.

I really and truly hope it is. There is no doubt a dedicated group of IT professionals working hard on this. My scepticism comes from dealing with the MoH who, at times, struggle to get out of their own way,

There is Python code available right now that will verify a legitimate MoH issued QR: https://github.com/gizmoguy/nz-covid-pass-verifier

And the spec albeit rather dense does cover everything a developer needs to build their own verifier: https://nzcp.covid19.health.nz/

MATTR have been talking with MOH for a wee while (along with other NZ Govt departments and intl Govt entities) from what I know. Their decentralised tech has been mostly around for a while, and was developed outside of the grips of this MOH contract, but with the possibility being in mind. Same with drivers licences, passports etc.

I'm assuming the bulk of the work will be sitting on the 'issuer' side with MOH, and consumer + verifier 'experience' being provided.

It hasn't just been started now, but there will be some quite key dependancies on MOH's side that will have.

I've been waiting for my covid vaccination letter for around 5 weeks now... on the application form they said it takes up to 10 days.... unsure if they intend on sending it at all?

Pretty poor.

you can manually apply for a certificate of your vaccinations, holds very little weight at the moment and only useful to show your boss your vaccinated or if you plan on going overseas and need some form of proof. how much weight it holds is a different story.

In your opinion. There are 2 situations where we need this letter already.   And, who knows when the government will get a functioning and trustworthy digital system up and running.

The letter is gold. It is not just needed for overseas travel.

Or even that.

If you’re travelling abroad, we’re unable to guarantee that other countries will recognise your COVID-19 vaccination letter as formal proof of vaccination.

Did you ask for an email or letter? I got an email in 24 hours.

Also the spec is out for the QR code. It’s going to get added to the COVID site, and the verification app will be out soon enough too.
Not sure where the concern is.

We actually got ours within like 30 mins of submitting the request for the letter, and I must say we were very surprised at the quick turnaround given that we were prepared to wait up to 10 working days as per the information on the website.  We requested this back in Aug/early Sept tho - not long after the this Delta lockdown.

Edit: Fixed typos/grammer

I suppose I might have to ask for the email... our schools are asking for these things for our children, and a place we're going on holiday is also asking for vaccination proof.

Air NZ are also going to start asking for it on domestic.

I just preferred something on paper vs email. One of the people staying in our house is Australian and needs it too, i'm not sure whether email is widely accepted vs an official government letter .   Emails are so easily forged.
