Do you have an Oximeter?

For anyone who hasn't already got one of these, get one now and use it to get a baseline reading while you're still 100%. If you get Covid, it'll warn you if/when you need to call an ambulance. Alternatively, it'll tell you that even though breathing is a bit hard, you're still doing OK.

Our household of 3 adults and 1 child all are positive for Covid and isolating since last Sunday.

I have been very impressed with how the systems are working - we had initially negative and then positive results and have input this into the system with no problem including the under 12 that went through the 0800 number. We have had texts with confirmations and references to resources on what to do and how to manage.

We have also each had individual phone calls from a doctor at our medical centre who went through symptoms, signs and other details and checked that we had all we needed etc. The MoH system is clearly connecting details through to our medical centre so that they knew to call us as we have made no contact with them.

Not much fun having Covid - like  a case of flu but it is impressive to see how this is all being handled and the safety netting that has been put in place.

We are just counting down the days till we get it.

my wife has a colleague that has it (caught from his gf), it’s all through our kids school and I see around 30 patients (+ staff, randoms etc) a day, 2 of which became positive after we had seen them so we now are seeing them each day in full ppe and isolation precautions etc to minimise risks. We probably have in excess of 120 people from all over the central N.I.  (excluding staff) come into our dept each day and have had only the 2 non-staff cases over this whole pandemic so pretty lucky.

only 2 people I work with out of a dept of around 90 or so have tested positive (2 other colleagues are household contacts of 1) over the whole pandemic as well, personally this speaks volumes of the importance of both vaccines and the hygiene/distancing procedures that have been put in place for dealing with covid.

Someone in our family (in-laws) returned a positive result this week. Shame because this person was in the hospital for something else for eight days before showing a high temperature, so obviously got it while there. Now moved from the specialist ward to the covid one. Once cleared then will be moved back to the original ward to continue the treatment for the previous condition.

Older person but vaccinated and boosted so we hope they will pull through.

For all those people in isolation, now that the rules have changed from 10 days to 7 days, do you simply change over to the new 7 day scheme or do you complete the 10 day isolation process?

I got a text today saying my time in isolation is up, 10 days after reporting my positive test.  So while I believe it was meant to switch to 7 days their IT system hasn't kept up.

All of us still feeling crummy, Mrs Duck is still quite ill 12 days into it.  At least she can get out of bed now which is an improvement.  10yo son still has tummy issues which require rapid access to a toilet so he wont be back at school until that clears.

I fear we will be isolating for a wee while longer yet, and hoping so much this isn't an indicator of long covid.

Test again and if it is still positive seek a doctor's advice.

The 7/10 is also only a minimum guide is it not?

Only out at the end if negative AND not symptomatic?

Good to keep resting until well. Not resting and trying to push through it are implicated in longer recovery.

It is normal to feel unwell for weeks which is what happens with the flu too. This has been a consistent outlook for those who are infected. The proportion of those who are asymptomatic or recovering quickly has increased but that doesn’t mean feeling unwell or tired for weeks is unusual. Everybody I know who tested positive two weeks ago is unwell or unusually tired two weeks later. But we tend to be older which means increased risk - 0% primary age up to 5% for of over 60s:

https://www.health.govt.nz/covid-19-novel-coronavirus/covid-19-health-advice-public/advice-people-covid-19 says Most people with COVID-19 develop cold and flu-like symptoms that can last up to two weeks.

That means some or many fall outside of this group with none or worse symptoms. Having limited symptoms doesn’t mean immune to long Covid but just at lower risk because higher viral load is one of the main risks.

By the way, they say not to test gain if you have Covid because a negative test doesn’t mean you are infectious and positive test results can continue even if you feel well.

Most of the advice I’ve seen about long Covid says not to bother thinking about it unless you have symptoms beyond a month.

e.g. https://www.cnet.com/health/medical/long-covid-what-to-know-about-the-lingering-illness/ … the key to discerning long COVID is to pay attention to new symptoms that develop or ones that never go away, after about 30 days post-infection.

Look back to 2020 covid appeared more severe but not that much different in time frames and isolation recommendations here:

7 or 10 days is a guideline. You need to be symptom free ideally for at least 48 hours but 24 is acceptable to stop isolating

Both my Daughter and Sons best friends both have Covid this morning. Whilst masked, they spend a lot of time with those kids... the next week will be interesting in our household.

We had an interesting scenario play out.

A few weeks ago, whilst isolating because our family had symptoms after I'd spent time in hospital, we were PCR tested. Results took 8 days to come back (negative). In that time I developed a very sore right ankle. It was a weird sort of pain. I mentioned it in another thread. Someone I know said they had the same thing, no other symptoms, and after searching around online found it to be a symptom of Covid loosely. He went and had test and came back positive. It's been a couple of weeks and my wife (with no other symptoms) has developed an identical pain in the same right ankle. Not sore except when bearing pain.  If it's not Covid, then it's like a really weird something else.

I'm sorry it has reached you. The husband of a young person I am close to also has it. Her mum is a close friend and in my bubble. I depend on her for my shopping so that is a worry. This is the first time it has impacted anyone I know. It may have also reached some antivax friends but that is not certain.

I can't speak to your weird ankle symptoms, but years of playing with computers and associated devices have repeatedly taught me that extraordinary coincidence is a regular feature of our reality. I can't begin to tell how many times I have been fed red herrings by completely unrelated things going wrong in similar ways at the same time.
