The issue is we get two cases from a cluster or household. That means nothing. We want to know that these people have been hard at it self isolating, or they have been shopping, beach, illicitly caught up with mates. What town and suburb. Option 1 is safe, sweet, option 2 is danger. Makes it much easier to justofy what they say on May 11.

Actually, option 1 is also danger, in that "How did they catch it if they were properly self-isolating?"

True. I took it as someone else in the locked down rest home or locked down household picked it up. But yeah, its highly unlikely that no one at all left the house or rest home. Supermarket, go home, etc. We at home have been 110% compliant, but Ive been to the supermarket, Iv ebene chatting to the nighbour, 3 meters apart then have others just walk by right next to me. Person brushes past me at the supermarket and so on

Face masks should be made compulsory for when out in public in all major towns and cities. This would act as a constant reminder of the threat we are facing. I can only imagine that procuring the required number of masks is impossible at the moment.

Id like to see the Mirte10 and Malls when they open, follow that rule, sell onsite, otherwise no admittance, but yes it depends on supply

We are not over this yet, in terms of world. USA still tracking but Russia coming up now: "Russia's cases rise by 10,000 in one-day record".

One of the articles posted earlier mentioned how the virus can be spread by the simple act of talking; so if we are to open up things again then masks need to become part of the new normal.

Yes, supply may be an issue which is why we haven't gone there yet - though I am sure that there are some factories in New Zealand that could change production to get out face coverings for people.

Bandana or any cloth tied on would do. I see some businesses are making masks here now

I like the idea of face masks being compulsory in crowded areas like Cinemas/Malls/etc, but as a deterrent/reminder, rather than for any other reason.

Only issue for me is attempting to eat a full English Breakfast with a mask on is problematic, as I see it.

Looks like Govt is giving up

https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/health/coronavirus/300003713/coronavirus-prime-minister-jacinda-ardern-outlines-level-3-departure

"Speaking to RNZ, Ardern said breaches of alert level 3 “weren't travelling too badly” after an initial and expected blip, which had police issue 73 warnings and prosecute 32 people."

Not sure what timeline she is referring to, its been a mess for the last week of L4, and worse in L3. I hope she mentions to us if we go to L2 that we do expect another wave of outbreaks.

A lot of that seems to be the spin put in the article by stuff.
The article on RNZ about the same interview is phased differently.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern: A few letting the side down over level 3 breaches https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/415743/prime-minister-jacinda-ardern-a-few-letting-the-side-down-over-level-3-breaches

To me it seems the government in trying to balance the stick with a little bit of encouragement "we know you can do better".

To be honest the lockdown can really only be inforced by consent of the public to comply so just saying bad people won't work.

0 new cases, but only 2.6K tests run and Bloomfield seems to think any symptomatic spreaders at L3 are yet to pop up.

A few? I feel the PM is minimising the flouters, presumably as she feels compelled to go to L2 no matter what the health risks (and future economic costs) are. The public wont accept L3. Many are treating it like L0, and will continue to do so. While I believe where we are at now is good management, the lack of interest by many people will leave it to luck to get a good result. We got lucky we eliminrted Covid-19 as a significant part of our 5 million couldn't care less . Maybe arresty them ans send them to the USA  for a holiday

0 is meaningless, its 2 less than the 2 from the other day, just as 6 was 3 less than the 9 from the other day. Need to wait at least 14 days to see how our socialisers worked out

I don’t think it’s meaningless, but certainly can’t read much into just one day (especially one with fewer tests).

Other countries have had zero new cases only to have a second wave, but there have been several reasons for that and I hope that we can learn from other countries and avoid their mistakes.

I’m was as disappointed as anyone when watching the news about how many people have been flouting the rules in the weekend, however I do think they are in the minority. It really does feel to me that we are ready to move to a modified Level 2.

I think our numbers are low enough that social distancing and good hand hygiene should be enough to keep our numbers dropping if the majority of people practise these.

I suspect the reality is, zero new cases will cause those who were teetering about flouting the rules, to flout them. Basically most people will relax 1 level more than they were before.

I thought I was the optimistic one here! It's L0 for the flouters and the socialisers now. When there was a few as in L4 that was manageable, I feel it's way up on that now. We had better hope that none of the handful of cases we get every day have never stepped foot outside.

Doesn't worry me if we go to L2, its L2 or less any way for many, that will grow. I will be laying low
