the whole family has now had covid, except for my older son who lives with us, escaped it. my other two sons both caught it and had no symptoms , i just sneezed and had a sore throat for 2 days but my wife ended up in hospital for a couple of days but we expected that as she has really bad health and ticks all the boxes of things you dont want when fighting covid but she is recovering now and feels a lot better. in my wifes case thank god for vaccinations .

Common sense is not as common as you think.

This damned virus is really taking a toll now. Mauricio, I’m really sorry for your family’s loss. Geekzone is a community and I’m sure we all feel the impact of this kind of thing. It is hard to keep finding the right words but I do hope you and the rest of your family get through this okay. I also hope @MikeB4 is managing and not having too hard a time. I feel for everyone who goes through this and I truly hope all the people ignoring and taking down the scan posters do not suffer too horribly for their foolishness. This plague is not over. Not even a little bit.

This morning my wife got a positive RAT result. As she spent the last five days at the hospital or at her parent's place I thought I could be spared.

Our daughter complained of a sore throat yesterday and we think hers could be from school as a friend tested positive on Friday. Her tests (three so far) are negative.

So now we are isolated. I don't have any symptoms but think it will be just a matter of time before getting it. In the meantime we have our masks on (even at home between ourselves only) and the air purifier running at full blast (might not help, or might help) in the lounge where we spend most of the time now (although I try not to have much contact and stay in the home office).

So sorry to hear of the passing of your Father in law. That is sad news. It's a very tough set of circumstances to be dealing with all at once.

You are doing all you can, stay safe, monitor your symptoms, don't be reluctant to call your Healthline for guidance.

I am really shocked to hear this. I distinctly remember what a thoroughly nice person he was when he came to do some maintenance at the boatshed a couple of years ago.

Your family are in my thoughts.

Had it doing the rounds at our house. I tested very positive (instant heavy line) on Saturday via RAT but I'm mostly through it already. My not yet 3 year old son woke up at 4am this morning with a fever and he's been lying on the couch all day and dozing periodically. This is quite dramatic and we know he isn't feeling well because that kid is an absolutely dynamo in any normal situation and is always on the go until he goes to sleep at night. Not sure how long this will go for given he's not vaxxed due to age.

Multiple kids from our boys' school have tested positive over the last few days, so it's spreading quickly.

My question to those that have been here before: how do we go about getting tests if we are self-isolating? Can we go to a testing centre (if they still exist), or do we somehow order some to be delivered?

We've used the only ones we have in the house.

FYI - we are all feeling mildly unwell with cold-like symptoms but nobody is seriously ill.

Edit: just found on the Covid website that we can order to be picked up - simple process and have done exactly that - will pick up later.

Yes you can go to a testing station (most are drive-through), or alternatively get someone to do a contactless drop off for you.

You can order them online and just give them the code on arrival, or whoever gets them for you.

Those of us with significant health conditions are more at risk now the rules and regulations are disappearing than ever before - something that I don’t feel has been well communicated amongst the enthusiasm for travel and events etc.

I’m effectively living as if we were in Level 4 and will continue to do so. As @freitasm sadly demonstrates, being vaccinated and boosted is no guarantee of good outcomes.

Some things to note. My wife is doing well so far. No temperatures or headaches. Only a sore throat and cough but slowly recovering. We are isolating at home in different parts of the house. When she comes to the kitchen I usually move to to the open deck or go have my shower. So far both myself and daughter have negative results - currently on day five.

As for my father-in-law, COVID may or may not be related to that fatality. He was admitted to hospital with an unrelated health issue, weeks before. All signs seem to point getting covid during that stay but recovered to the point of being moved to a room. While having covid looks bad, the final outcome doesn't seem to be directly related to that infection.

One of my sons has felt sick since Friday but didn't test positive until Monday, Like others here, this was within a day or so of many of his school friends (despite receiving an email from the principal in which he cited evidence that schools are not a significant source of infection!)

We've decided not to try too hard to stop the spread within our family so are socialising as usual (though as he's a teenager that already means he spends 99% of his time in his room!). The other three of us are all still feeling ok and, as of yesterday, have tested negative. He's on the improve (though has frequently reported a sore stomach, something which many other kids have apparently reported). While there's still a good chance he could have/could still pass it on, we've decided that is a risk we're ok with. Luckily my youngest got his second dose 12 days ago (had his first the first week it opened up for <14s) so it should be close to peak effectiveness for him...
