For all those under 65 year olds who feel bullet proof.
Don't have elders they care about, and just wanna return completely to normal.

https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/new-zealand/2020/05/father-of-two-covid-19-survivor-calls-for-action-on-prevention.html

A news piece on a 41 year old father of two who had to be put of a respirator for 16 Days in Auckland.

"
"[I] started coughing, started vomiting, breathing became difficult, and then that's when the doctor came and told me that we're going to put a ventilator in you."

The 41-year-old father-of-two did not fit the profile of a person at high risk.

He had no underlying health conditions but the virus impacted so much he thought he would never breathe again.

Sanjay spent almost a month in hospital, most of it in intensive care and had to miss his daughter's 11th birthday.

"She blew the candle and she made a wish that Daddy comes back to life today."
"

Then an article on 26 year old nurse.

https://www.newsroom.co.nz/2020/05/08/1163674/waitakere-nurse-seriously-ill-in-hospital

"
Newsroom understands the nurse is just 26 years-old but is seriously unwell, with low oxygen in her blood, meaning she is hypoxic and is on oxygen. She is not in ICU at this stage.
"
"
She becomes the fourth Waitakere Hospital nurse to test positive in less than two weeks.
"

Best wishes for her recovery.
My heart goes out to the nurse and her family, as it does to all those who have lost loved ones and almost lost loved ones under conditions where there was little capability to comfort and be comforted.

I'll certainly enjoy the extra freedom when we do go to level 2 , whenever we do.
With caution it will be ok if people are responsible and care for others , not just themselves.

I see that Korea is having to go back to tamping down outbreaks in nightclubs.

There are some great sacrifices with cultural practices, be it big Weddings, Clubbing or stag parties.
I do hope those Kava clubs reconsider they way they do things as we have had to in many other areas.

We will be fine, if we act sensibly in level 2.
Not great, there is a global economic crisis of great magnitude no matter what.
There is more to life, and learning a few repair and make do skills, exercising some charity and helping others will see us through I hope.

Yes, read this and was "Whoa, this isn't going to end well for the UK'.

And people here complain we locked down too late. Others say we locked down too much.

What about we say we did it just right?

100%

There was no playbook to go by. With hindsight we could alter what was done to make it more effective, but at the time, there is no way to know if its too little or too much. Where are we now? In a good place. They say AUS has done better. Not sure I believe that, a lesser lockdown and they have 701 cases, 10.1%, that they cannot find the source. 1 in 10 cases where they can't chat to the source and isolate them. Id hate to go to L2 with that. I bags NZ.

Going to be interesting once the antibodies tests for this become accurate and widely available to see just how far it got inside the community, given no two people of equal age and condition seem to have the same experience of it. Some people seem to be floored by low oxygen levels and doctors have remarked that people can be sitting upright and having a conversation with the same or lower oxygen levels.

If you have uncontrolled community transmission and your infection rate is higher than almost every other country, there's not much point in quarantining incoming people... they're less risky than your existing residents, and consequently each one *lowers* your infection rate.

OTOH, you would have to be crazy to go to the UK, New York, New Jersey, Belgium, Spain, etc at the moment.

Never before Covid-19 have I seen such a pristine ATM (ANZ Upper Riccarton), with a touchscreen you can read, a rubbish slot not overfilled with rubbish, a keypad without any unknown substance, the absence of not having to dodge standing in other rubbish etc!

Well done, but hey it shows up how bad the normal (Pre Covid-19) cleaning was!

Also going back to level 3 highlighted how much McDonalds rubbish was missing from the Streets under level 4!

Three views. David Seymour, Souxsie Wiles and Shamubeel Eaqub   Politician, Microbiologist, Economist.

David Seymour says "Significantly, the last three days' test results reflect level 3 conditions. People testing positive yesterday likely felt symptoms on Wednesday or Thursday meaning they contracted the virus at the end of last week under level 3," the ACT leader says in a statement on Saturday.

https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/politics/2020/05/david-seymour-says-government-must-not-hesitate-moving-to-alert-level-2.html

Souxsie Wiles says the opposite, as regards the Level 3 cycle

One of the strongest voices to emerge against the transition was microbiologist Dr Siouxsie Wiles. On Friday, she told Stuff Monday was too soon to know whether the drop from level 4 to level 3 had resulted in more cases across the country.

The low cases in recent days were a reflection of lockdown restrictions, and given how long it took for the infection to take hold, Wiles thought Monday wasn't long enough to see a full picture of how level 3 had progressed.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/health/coronavirus/121458848/coronavirus-arguments-for-and-against-moving-to-alert-level-2-next-week

Economist Shamubeel Eaqub thought, ideally, for business' sake, we needed to move down to level 2 "as quickly as we can".

Despite the benefits of level 2 for the economy, it wasn't the reason to move early, Eaqub said.

"This decision should be hinged on the public health grounds because that is also the economic grounds. (my bold)

"If we can’t clear the public health risk then the economy is not going to be rebounding."

Opening the economy early, while it might be beneficial for businesses who had been struggling in lockdown, won't do anyone any favours if it was opened too early. It could result in second, third or fourth Covid-19 waves crashing in the future.

"Waves from infection are actually far more damaging for the economy than having a one-off big shut down like we're having," Eaqub said.

Seems to be level 0 today, based on all the people out and about, and all the cars on the road.

I see that China are opening Disneyland. It is amazing what is now involved https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=saIXr31l-wU&t=21s .

- They have a 'Minority Report' videoed bulk temperature scanning system, that can scan multiple people at the same time, for anyone entering the park. https://youtu.be/saIXr31l-wU?t=81

- People must wear masks unless eating

- People have to have a green health QR code, which apparently dictates where people can go. Not sure this would fly in NZ or most democratic countries. https://www.businessinsider.com.au/coronavirus-china-health-software-color-coded-how-it-works-2020-4?r=US&IR=T

- Tables are separated with a table in between.

- Ride vehicles have a clear row between people, and a seat between parties in a bubble.

- Selfies must be done with your mask kept on

- You can only wave are characters in the distance

- Staff are wearing both masks and disposable gloves

NZs level two doesn't require masks or an app or temp checking, and seem far more relaxed than China. Even Australia has an App.

Only if people have bothered to get tested. It has been shown people can take 5 days or longer for people to decide that it maybe a good idea to get tested, after developing symptoms. So the first level 3 cases may not appear until this week. It was recommended by one expert working with the MOH for the MOH to actively contact people to see how they feel, to try and prompt people to get tested. This could occur in known areas with there are cases.

But 2 cases today and some other recent ones, have been traced back to existing cluster.,But I wonder if many of those have occurred because of level 3 causing more bubbles to merge? The MOH are still not providing enough details on these current cases, which they can easily do. There was also a very recent case of someone in Nelson, who I understand may have been a supermarket worker that they hadn't apparently linked to any cluster. Not sure if that has been linked to any other case yet?

If this guy is right we've either wasted our time trying to eliminate the virus or we've potentially got a very long road of quarantine/containment ahead of us.

The flip side is if he is wrong Sweden has needlessly killed thousands of its citizens.

No one really knows, despite strong opinions on both sides.
