It could just transfer potential spending money to flights & airport taxes.

That was my feeling. If I spent $4k on a NZ trip as I cant go to AUS thats into our economy and tourism operators/supporting retail. If I spent that in AUS it drops our balance of payments and no money into our economy. Same applies to the OZ people who are stuck there. If however, we all flew to the other country, while it won't fully offset, a lot of it would seem to if travel was 1:1

If the AUS tourist to NZ volume exceeded the Kiwi's going to AUS we get a benefit, buit isnt it just a net benefit?

Its really not that hard:

And from the previous link 1.491m came from Australia to NZ.

So you do the math. Is it cancelling each other out? Is it just snowbunnies coming from Australia to NZ? DYOR.

I'm sure they would, but its a net benefit. We gain what comes in, but we see Kiwis flying out every day with their wallets full of A$ notes (figuratively) Would a skier in QTN spend more than me if I went to Sydney to see and do all the sights? Maybe, maybe not, not a lot in it I would imagine

That's certainly a benefit. But a much larger benefit is that it opens up a broader range of recreational (& business?) opportunities for both Ozzies and Kiwis. I could go to Sydney Vivid or Ayers Rock or Gold Coast theme parks or Bathurst 1000 or any of hundreds of things that aren't in NZ. Ozzies could come here for things that aren't in Oz (scenery, skiing, elocution, rugby lessons, etc)

And you can get duty-free booze.

How do you do any scientific verification and study that might be seen as criticism if it comes up with 'wrong' answer ?

In C19 outbreak TCM got a big push in China, much as we jumped on all sorts of drugs in hope, but evidence on efficacy.

CDC study of SARS-CoV-2 Infections and Serologic Responses from a Sample of crew on the USS Theodore Roosevelt (early release report).

Specific to mostly healthy, younger adults but interesting nonetheless.

"Among a convenience sample of 382 young adult U.S. service members aboard an aircraft carrier experiencing a COVID-19 outbreak, 60% had reactive antibodies, and 59% of those also had neutralizing antibodies at the time of specimen collection. One fifth of infected participants reported no symptoms. Preventive measures, such as using face coverings and observing social distancing, reduced risk for infection."

"The outbreak was characterized by widespread transmission with relatively mild symptoms and asymptomatic infection among this sample of mostly young, healthy adults with close, congregate exposures."

"Service members who reported taking preventive measures had a lower infection rate than did those who did not report taking these measures (e.g., wearing a face covering, 55.8% versus 80.8%; avoiding common areas, 53.8% versus 67.5%; and observing social distancing, 54.7% versus 70.0%, respectively)."

In this study face masks had the best odds ratio of any preventative measure - 0.3 vs 0.52 for social distancing (to the extent that would be possible on an aircraft carrier). Data from Table.

Time for MOH to acknowledge face masks as a potentially important preventative measure in enclosed spaces or where there are crowds in close proximity.

MoH has never dismissed masks. It has said they arent infalliable, but more importantly, you may not be wearing a proper mask, or one that is fitted properly or worn properly and there is a propensity to touch your face. I guess the fear is the majority wont be wearing them properly but will act as invincible, and add to the risk.
