Official office advice is 'masks are now not required, but you can still wear one if you wish'

I am quite glad that 90% of the regular staff can't access our department

Yep. I hate wearing masks, but I have no issue with it, as it works, and Id be happy with mandatory masks till Spring, and I will, but I feel that many are over it, problem is Covid is not over either

Same. I definitely think the government should be using stronger language to communicate the ongoing strong recommendation of masks. I can tell you every doctor we know is screaming for it.

Winter is going to suck for health care workers.

My wife is one of those health care workers. It has been unrelenting with 14 hour days, 12 days on, 2 days off. She is pretty frazzled.

Yup, I feel you. Similar stories from pretty much all healthcare workers we know right now.

Yep, and people act like it instantly disappeared from Earth.

How nice. They allow you to still wear one if you want.

Geektastic: I still haven’t met very many who’ve had it IRL. A few here on GZ and I think one in NZ.

Strange how it get around aye. My household (me, wife and 3 kids) my sister's family (5 people), my brothers family (4 people) and my parents have all had it over the last 2+ months. All mild thankfully. We had it in March, my parents just this week.

Several of my mates families have all had it.

But another mate of mine said I am the ONLY person he knows who has had it.

On the point of masks - I have an exemption, but still wear a mask almost everywhere when I can 90%+.

Went to a store the other day, mask not on but keeping my distance from others minding my own business, my "exemption tag" around my neck, and a person in the shop (not a worker!) Came over from the other side of the shop, got in my face about not wearing a mask and made the whole thing most uncomfortable. The funny thing is, I wear when I can, test 3 times a week for work, keep my distance from others when not wearing, do not go out with Any symptoms, I'm fully vaxed etc but all this was lost on the guy who did not want to listen and whose mask did not even cover his nose and was walking around coughing and spluttering.

I am not going to lie, looking forward to the other side of winter when hopefully we can be a bit more relaxed with some of these public health measures.

Ugh, here we go again. One of my staff has symptoms, negative rat, my daughter has symptoms, negative rat. My son has very minor symptoms and my wife was at a conference in the weekend where she spent 2 hours with her mentor at breakfast who has subsequently tested positive!

Was there a site that told you what the wait time for a test was at a testing station? I vaguely recall something quite some time ago but a quick google search didn't find anything. I just don't want to take my daughter to Balmoral testing station for 2 hours like last time!

edit: found it

Yup - similar here: My boss has tested positive, I was in the office with him last week.

Wife, youngest son and I all have symptoms but have tested negative twice in 3 days.

Eldest (who is the only one that has had Covid) is feeling absolutely fine and dandy!!

Partner went out for a work lunch on Thursday, she's tested positive on the weekend. So far of the 5 who went, 2 (incl her) have tested positive, another 2 have scratchy throats. None were symptomatic at lunch so assuming it was caught at restaurant. Meanwhile I'm negative so far, but can't tell if the tingle in my throat is covid, or a placebo.

My partner came home Friday from work saying a fellow office worker had tested positive and another was already isolating at home and another was starting chemo this week. The big boss is on moving leave.

My partner tested negative on Saturday morning, then had a crap night last night with all the classical symptoms.

He tested positive 📈 this morning. I am still negative.

This leaves his work office with only one person to run all of the region. This is a scheduling and personnel critical company. So everyone's phones, including my partners, are running hot at each ones home. Not ideal as only one has VPN access to the work computer systems.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Modeler reckons 50% of the population has been infected:

https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/new-zealand/2022/05/coronavirus-modeller-believes-around-half-of-new-zealand-s-population-has-been-infected-with-covid-19.html

Be very interested to know what the re-infection rate is.

My 15yo and 21yo boys have definitely had it. Wife, daughter and I didn't catch it, despite being in the household. Depending on the re-infection likelihood, at 50% population infected, wouldn't you think the infection rate would start to dwindle now?

Well, I have to say, compared to our other experiences being tested, today was perfect. Drove in, explained, went into a very short queue and was out all within 7-8 minutes. 30 minutes out including travel time. Impressed and relieved. The last episode was 2 hours in a hot car with 3 sick people.

Lab staff are striking today so unsure when we get the results.

Worst thing is that the timing of this sucks if my daughter has it. Her best friend (only person allowed to come) called in sick for her birthday party the night before, and now my daughter may have it and possibly misses her best friends birthday party!

Are the testing stations 100% RAT only now or is there an option for PCR?
