so the whole country could be back into quarantine because 2 woman wanted to go to a funeral and were trusted to follow there plan . It's only blind luck if they are the only 2 we get out of it

Common sense is not as common as you think.

MileHighKiwi: I am also angry, having just heard the news on the school run and straight away I thought lockdown, here we come again.

Not good enough. Argh, I'm flipping fuming now, they had no business being here, especially for someone who is already dead.

We are going to screw this up.

I think the risk could be quite low, but I am potentially  more worried about other potential cases in the isolation hotel. I would have thought since they were from a covid hotspot, they would be in proper quarantine.

If anyone thought we would not have another case in NZ is naive.

Anyone who is upset we’ve got cases in NZ is naive.

Here is the real test of how our contact tracing and testing systems have improved.

Any way, the funeral they were going to hadn’t happened yet. It has been delayed by two weeks.

We've been lucky all this while from January to now. Hopefully our luck won't run out.

I think what people are upset by, is that they were permitted out of isolation to travel, and their cases weren't picked up before this.

Coming from the UK I would have never given a nod to let them out before the 14 days were up. And not with "mild symptoms".

Unbelievable.

I'm not sure that everyone shares that sentiment. It's not the what happens but the how it happens.

Frankly, your contact tracing has gotten worse - businesses are no longer required to keep registers, and people aren't required to keep their own. Part of being allowed to return to social normality should have been to keep a contact tracing register.

To be watertight, I would even extend that to 21 days quarantine, just in case, for people coming from hotspots, that are far more likely to be infected. I think we have to behave like anyone from a hotspot has it. Testing before they get on the plane in the other country and even self isolation for 14 days prior to travel, which is what I believe the Avatar crew did, IMO would also be a good idea, and surprised it isn't mandatory. All these thing reduced the risk .

Petition calls for UK to declare war on New Zealand to help win Covid-19 battle

today

A UK resident has come up with an unusual plan to beat Covid-19 in the country: have the government declare war on New Zealand, then immediately surrender.

By doing so, it's hoped Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern would become the leader of the UK as well. ...

According to the petition, declaring war then surrendering would invoke an international law which would see current UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson deposed and replaced with Ms Ardern. ...

The petition gathered several hundred signatures but appears to have been deleted.

to be fair this has been  a lot tighter since the 9th of June and anyone now anyone with an exemption now has to show a negative test before they can travel through NZ, which would have stopped these 2.

It maybe, but were the rules retrospective? Beucase didn't they arrive in Wellington by car on Late Saturday, which would have been the 14th June?
