mattwnz:

To be honest, these hotel IMO should be totally isolated from the NZ public. We are trusting our entire economy and potentially hundreds of billions of dollars on the virus not sneaking into the community,  through these hotels.

Ex-Police Commissioner Mike Bush was & still is directly responsible for everything that happens at these Hotel/Quarantine facilities.
(He is responsible for managing them)
He is(&was) perfectly capable of stopping them from being used for any non-Covid event.
& it's his end responsibility to ensure no one is released without proper testing/clearance.

He has done a really crap job & seriously let the country down.
He needs to be fired and replaced with someone competent!
That is the head that must roll.

Having said all that, if the politicians aren't going to do anything then someone has to get some action taken, and that role has traditionally been the media. What New Zealand has been doing since we came out of level 4, and what's apparently been obvious to everyone except the decision-makers, is quarantine theatre (from "security theatre"), an elaborate theatrical production designed to make it look like something is being done while actually not achieving much apart from showing the public that something is being done. If it's necessary to burn the theatre down to get some action then I'd rather have it done now than when we've got hundreds of untraced and untraceable cases throughout the community.

My opinion is that those who manage quarantine, have the rules in place as to the expectations. They, for whatever reason cant make it secure. Military has been there for over a month, no change. Dr A and AC Digby do talk, so I have no idea how daily minglings and issues still happen. Its clear from what they say, that this is my role that is his role, talk to him. Thats not good enough. They need an auditor if MoH arent proactive and are not checking themselves. Or cannot, as PM appointed Police and not MoH it seems.  Id like to know how much actual input MoH have in these centres, as they have official accountability on the pandemic, but seem out of the loop as regards these centres

The tests that havent been done are being done

Because no one can manage the centres, an MP has been brought in to do that

Except that people who have just arrived are mingling freely with people who are just about to be released, and there have been numerous reports of whole families being let out without anyone being tested. So it's quarantine theatre, not real quarantine.

As someone else pointed out some pages back, if Australia is picking up several cases each day at the border and we're finding zero, that's a lack of testing and not because we miraculously have zero cases turning up on incoming flights from infected countries.

Which is why I posted "Because no one can manage the centres, an MP has been brought in to do that"

The announcement is on now are you not listening to it?

By MP do you mean NZ Military Police

good luck on that happening now , if people thought it was slack before it is going to go the other way now and i would think people in prison will have more freedom than people in an isolation hotel after today

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Even so NZ Military Police  would bring discipline into managed isolation and quarantine 😎

I would have thought so. But the Police is there, headed by a retired Commissioner, = no good. Military has been there for over a month, no good. Including the one appointed today. Maybe him and MP Woods will make a difference.

Woods' response was excellent, us already in NZ worked hard for 5 weeks at level 4 to get us to here, the people arriving owe it to us to do the 2 weeks properly to earn their right to join the population.

I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest you've never had anything to do with the military police... calling them Keystone Kops would be an affront to Mack Sennett.
