They really needed to bite the bullet and do a Level 4 cleanse. I watch a bit of Sky News which is AUS news, they dont want to lockdown, economy matters. They are putting themselves into a corner. If Kiwis had to Level 4 again we would hate it, but we know it, has to be done. AUS has had an easier lockdown there, they would never accept a true Level 4. But a true Level 4 would stifle the virus

Until they have a proper elimination policy like NZ, they won't solve this long term IMO. Some people in NZ, including those in the Media here thought our lockdown was too tough, and thought we should follow Australia, with a level 3.5, rather than a 4.

Yes, and they were wrong. People bag the Govt. It became political. Labour is liberal, Nats are conservative. Labour Conservative ruled. You can lockdown too much and get castigated, but you cant lockdown too little, you can't solve that ---> Victoria and now NSW

Sal Lake Tribune: In separate rallies, Utahns protest mask mandate and demand in-person classes

...They packed into the small boardroom to talk, pulling tape off the seats meant to maintain social distancing and crowding in against the walls. They wore “Trump 2020” hats and carried little American flags, and every time someone said “freedom” or “constitutional rights” the whole room cheered. Almost no one wore a mask; those who did had them pulled under their chins.

“This mandate for the children to wear masks is baloney,” said Cynthia Harding, a Provo resident. “We have the right to make our own choices.”...

...A grandmother said the virus isn’t real anyway (though there are more than 5,600 confirmed cases in Utah County).

“We are perpetuating a lie,” said Denna Robertson, 65, of Provo, who has five grandchildren. “COVID is a hoax. It’s a lie. It’s a political stunt.”

...Demonstrators carried posters that read “Don’t smother the children” and “Let kids be kids. No masks!”

... The Republican leader has called for a “compassionate exemption” from the mask requirement for the thousands of students in Alpine, Provo and Nebo School Districts in the county. Parents, he believes, should choose whether their children wear a covering or not.

“I don’t like government mandates,” Lee said to claps and whistles from the crowd.

One man attacked Dr. Angela Dunn, the state’s epidemiologist, claiming she spreads misinformation and “doesn’t actually treat patients.”...

...Penny Brown added that she plans to homeschool her two kids — ages 10 and 3 — if the mandate stays in place. She worries about her oldest being taught to fear the world by wearing a mask. And she thinks neither of her kids will be able to properly socialize with others if their faces are covered; the emotional impact is her biggest concern.

“It’s going to rewire their brains,” she said. “I’m especially not going to send my son back to have his mind broken.”

...She also believes schools will be harming students by using too many harsh chemicals to fight the virus. “I’m not subjugating them to that crap,” Brown said.

...Inside, tensions rose. When the meeting started, Commissioner Tanner Ainge declared he wouldn’t support so many people in the boardroom not social distancing. He made a motion to adjourn and hear the proposal from Lee another day in a bigger space. The board’s third member, Nathan Ivie, voted in favor and Lee against. After the 2-1 decision, Ainge walked out.

“This is the exact opposite of what we need to be doing,” Ainge said, noting he’s written a letter supporting the governor’s mandate. “We should be physically distancing and wearing masks. This room is not complying with those health guidelines.”

A torrent of boos followed with shouts of “Down with Tanner Ainge” and “He’s trying to silence us” and “Vote him out.” One teacher said, “Our classrooms are fuller than this.”

Baltic Times: First batch of Lithuania-donated coronavirus supplies to leave for US

A special ceremony was held in Vilnius Lithuania on Tuesday morning to mark the departure of the first batch of medical supplies donated by Lithuania to the US to help combat the coronavirus pandemic.

"This is a symbolic gesture of solidarity and friendship. Lithuania is sending personal protective equipment to Pennsylvania for the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic," Deputy Foreign Minister Dalius Cekuolis told the Baltic News Service.

I have been posting over the last few weeks here about the lack of community testing in the community.

You have! MULTIPLE TIMES! I dont always agree based on where we are, but I do support your stance, for sure. I guess the issue is who do you test? They cant door lock, and doctors would be referring, if not many are potentially symptomatic who do they test? If I "assume" we are covid free right now, we can test 200,000 per day and get no result. Yes, we should be doing more sentinel testing but it seems we need to door knock (which is not a bad idea) Door knock my suburb, test 1000 and so on.

But my point is we seem to be very clean. Our reserve should be when a CT pops up GO HARD THEN?

The funny thing is I made the mistake of ringing healthline during L2. Basically they said if you have a sniffle you need to get a test, oh and by the way we know what car you drive and you need to stay at home for the next two days as the police will be checking.
I fully agree that ongoing CT is required to ensure we don’t have any spread, but I have said to others that unless you want to be locked down for two days I don’t recommend you call healthline.
I would have thought with all the spare capacity right now they would test everyone who has any contact with the isolation hotels and every medical worker.
But another example is a friend of my wife’s who works in a hospital has a sniffle and couldn’t get tested, so the criteria must have changed and swung too far to minimum requirements which I don’t think is right.
Test anyone who wants it, plus go into a community or school or office and test everyone there too.
A swab up your nose is 10 seconds of discomfort for reassurances that there is no community spread.

Gotta say, I have been to Provo many times. Lots of Mormons, lots of religious fanatics and a lot of very dumb people who will believe whatever their pastor tells them.

This comes as no surprise to me whatsoever.

Something in new peer reviewed paper highlighted by this UK doctor that has a bit of a following.

Hopefully this chap is on the up and up.
SARS 2002/3 immunity T-cells were found present even if antibodies not detectable today, 17 years later.
Seems to be saying memory T-Cells more important for long term immunity.
Gives more support that antibody dissipation observed with SARS-COV2 is not the full story on immunity.
So more hopeful for longer protection.
Secondarily they saw the SARS immunity T-Cells, reacted to SARS-COV2, so broad spectrum reaction.
They also saw some preexisting immunity in people with no known infection of either.
May be comforting for people with close contact to cows, dogs, rodents , possible supposition.

We shall see,
After all we will be far down the queue for vaccine.
We so shall know much of the story/results before we start any vaccination program.

Nature Preview link to paper.

https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-020-2550-z_reference.pdf
Its one weird virus family for sure.

Actually there is a USA Vaccine program for SARS that was put on ice , and restarted to modify for SARS-COV2.
They also said they were given impetus to keep going when they found reactivity of the SARS vaccine prototype to SARS-COV2.

Its all hurry up an wait.

Edit add link to original paper.

My first thought was, they are probably not regular churchgoers. The LDS mormon church (world headquarters in Utah) has been sensible throughout I think and initiated a shutdown of many activities:

Indeed it does seem that the LDS leaders have been taking this seriously which I think is great and semi-unexpected news.

But with religious indoctrination particularly deep there since if you step out of line with the LDS you are excommunicated and that was a real fear for many and the every present Trump factor I know many of my friends still in Utah have been regularly posting on Facebook asking for everyone to wear masks and having heated debates with others there about why it is so important.

Science and religion doesn't tend to mix well, especially during pandemics.

It's real. A great example of Poe's law:

"without a clear indicator of the author's intent, it is impossible to create a parody of extreme views so obviously exaggerated that it cannot be mistaken by some readers for a sincere expression of the views being parodied"

Americans are well-known for extreme views.

Trey Parker and Matt Stone, creators of South Park, have said they recently stopped Trump reference in their cartoon because it's often less absurd than reality.

My issue is that folks such as handle9 said we needed to open for the economy and the approach the government has is not sustainable.
Oddly enough they haven’t responded to the facts I brought to the argument.
