I really don't see why people have such a big issue with lockdown, you spend like 60% of your time at home already, you can still go outside (walks etc) you can still talk to friends and family (phones, text, video).
100%
1. Im doing my bit
2. Its not forever
3. That will resolve it again

"Aucklanders flee lockdown to Queenstown"
So many selfish people.
Yes and then talking to media about it, loved it how they did not want to use their names when talking to the media. You might have flee'd auckland for lockdown but they might have just put other places into lockdown because of this.

As an introvert of the highest order, I agree. The only problem is that during lockdown I lose the hours alone that I normally get when my wife is at the office!
She gave me a T-Shirt that says "Introverts of the world, unite! Separately. In your own homes."

This is always a potential consequence of not telling all. And I have no doubt that early in the covid-19 outbreak in February/March we weren't being told all. And it certainly looks that way now too... the sudden reintroduction of covid TV ads and pessimistic turn to AB's statements suggests that the Government had information which they haven't shared.
Yay - A new conspiracy theory. I'll add it to the list. /sarcasm
Despite that sarcastic comment above I do agree that the government glossed over our real readiness initially - but bear in mind they also are releasing the cabinet papers so can nothing gets hidden for long.
Personally I think the MoH was very worried about the low testing rates and complacency and doing everything to it could to get them up in the last 6 weeks - including Dr B having a public covid test. This would explain the advertising and messaging as well.
I also think it was coincidence that the mask policy was reviewed a few weeks ago - it should have been done months ago.
And yest there is an election coming up and anything you see from National is heavily biased on the desire from them to win. Labour will be a little biased as well, but fortunately for them what they need to do to win is continue to be manage the situation and front Jacinda as the prime minister updating everyone (which is what the should be doing regardless)

It rather worries me that Brownlee and Collins are actually implying that "we are not being told all" for political reasons.
In a pandemic the deliberate attempt to lower trust in what we are told is a very dangerous tactic, especially for political point scoring.

That's what my wife said! made me think (coz she has a knack of proving to be right). My initial thought was (and still is) - they needed to do this from the very beginning.

Well that's a shambles.
Surely one person working for the DHB could estimate how long it would take to test people "per car", print off a notice, and walk down the queue handing out a note explaining the problem.
After the L4 lockdown there was almost no flu or cold "respiratory virus" in circulation. I bet that's not the situation now - just based on the number of people I know who have had "colds". So it doesn't surprise me that testing stations are overwhelmed.
I'm surprised that no triage seems to be happening with those in the queue.
Those that were interviewed by reporters don't seem to be exhibiting symptoms and only going for a check ?
Triaging would ensure that those with symptoms would be seen sooner rather than later. Or not at all.
Not sure why but I'm not surprised :(
The breaking news now is that people are being turned away from testing.
Makes me recall the scenes of the USA videos. We're the same!? (at least for today!)
I don't for a second believe the conspiracy theories. The simplest answer is usually the right one.
The reality is that over the last couple of months, while we have seen no community transmission in NZ, we have seen things get worse overseas. Our closest neighbour is currently in the midst of a horrendous outbreak in VIC for example. I think it's far more likely that the ramp up in messaging was a reaction to what's happening overseas, and a desire from the Government to see NZers take it more seriously and be prepared.
It's obvious that a lot of NZers were complacent (and I guess we felt we had a right to be). What with refusing testing, no one bothering with the tracing app/QR codes. The MoH appears to have been rightly concerned about that. We felt we'd beaten it and had nothing to worry about - naive at best given we are in uncharted territory.
What has this Government or its Ministry of Health done to suggest they've been hiding information? To my mind, they've been nothing but transparent where it relates to Covid-19 and that includes right up until a late night government press conference (relatively unprecedented) to announce new cases.

They model the risk of returning NZers and how the different interactions with non-medical staff (e.g. border workers) who are not in PPE or isolating increases that risk over time.
Eventually, once you process enough people, that probability eventually rises close enough to almost certain. If anything, they may have been too late on bringing the ads back.

Agreed - we should never have taken the foot off the gas. I would have liked to have seen messaging celebrating our lack of community transmission, but reminding people Covid-19 is still a global issue, and advising of sensible steps for preparedness.
Edit: and reminding them to use the tracing app/keep a diary.
3 cases confirmed at Americold in Mt Wellington. Yea there's no way this lockdown is just 3 days. Id say level 4 very likely at this point.

It never was 3 days. never. It was 3 days to assess where its at. If we have random cases all over AKL, then perhaps L4. Right now there is one source. The cooling store guy led to his 3 family members, and a student close to them and now 3 more cool store workers. 7 people from one source, thats a good thing. If the close contacts of these have not been tiki touring around Auckland too much, perhaps Level 3 will suffice. IF the locatons the 7 have been to can get tested and go into isolation until the results come back. Im picking L3 continues to the 14th day.

A friend of mine spent ten hours in a testing station queue, inside her car. Moved about one kilometre on that time. Turned around about seven at night... She called a station this morning and was informed it was fully booked, and will try her luck with another one.
Has there been any word on when additional and/or GP testing will resume again? Obviously 4 testing stations for a city of 1 million + is an unfunny joke...
EDIT: They've just said there are 15 stations now, updated at the covid website, just a note that most other websites still only show 4 so refer to the official site if needed.

You make it sound like a holiday. Lockdown was one of the most stressful times of my life. My wife and I working full time at home with a 4 & 5 year old to entertain and school. We were working 10-12 hours a day to keep up with our workload, often working till 11pm. At least we have a large backyard, I can't imagine what it would be like in an apartment.
I'm angry. We have been let down by weak officials. There are countless stories of lax quarantine and testing measures in managed isolation. Bus drivers not being tested, nurses and security guards moonlighting. Yet Bloomfield says "no, that's not true, we have robust systems". Yeah right!
How the new outbreak is effecting Avatar and lord of the rings productions. Apparently filming may continue even in level 3 but will be paused again if we go to level 4.

May have been mentioned, interview with workplace owner:
Winnall said everyone has been tested and remains in isolation.
He also confirmed that in the past two weeks there were two confirmed cases at Americold's Melbourne facility.
"There's no product going from one to another," Winnall said.
He said his thoughts were with the family.

I think you'd better calm down and wait for contact tracing to hopefully find the source of this outbreak.
It was probably inevitable, it's been widely stated that it was probably inevitable - so it shouldn't be a surprise.
We had 100 days local CT-free. At the worst that's still put us 100 days closer to a vaccine than we would have been if less harsh / more "business friendly" lockdowns had been introduced.
If you wanted to stop C-19 getting in, the borders would have needed to be closed completely.
