ToPGuNZ:

May have been mentioned, interview with workplace owner:

Winnall said everyone has been tested and remains in isolation. He also confirmed that in the past two weeks there were two confirmed cases at Americold's Melbourne facility. "There's no product going from one to another," Winnall said. He said his thoughts were with the family.

He also stated that there'd been no staff from overseas visit the NZ facilities.

The coincidence of cases in the Melbourne facility?  Who knows?  C-19 clusters were a problem in food processing plants in Melbourne.  The virus probably does persist on chilled / frozen packaging surfaces for a long time.  The fact that no product was transferred between facilities doesn't mean that product from the same source wasn't stored in both Melbourne and Auckland facilities.

I don't for a second believe the conspiracy theories. The simplest answer is usually the right one.

The reality is that over the last couple of months, while we have seen no community transmission in NZ, we have seen things get worse overseas. Our closest neighbour is currently in the midst of a horrendous outbreak in VIC for example. I think it's far more likely that the ramp up in messaging was a reaction to what's happening overseas, and a desire from the Government to see NZers take it more seriously and be prepared.

It's obvious that a lot of NZers were complacent (and I guess we felt we had a right to be). What with refusing testing, no one bothering with the tracing app/QR codes. The MoH appears to have been rightly concerned about that. We felt we'd beaten it and had nothing to worry about - naive at best given we are in uncharted territory.

What has this Government or its Ministry of Health done to suggest they've been hiding information? To my mind, they've been nothing but transparent where it relates to Covid-19 and that includes right up until a late night government press conference (relatively unprecedented) to announce new cases.

I would be inclined to assume incompetence was the cause before I assumed conspiracy was.

However, that does not mean that I think governments release all the information they possess to the general public. Not at all.

I - for example - am aware through personal contacts that the DHBs have been ramping up preparation for a second outbreak for quite some weeks if not months. This information has not been made widely available (and I mention it only because it is now somewhat after the fact) yet I do not think it was not publicised because someone was planning a conspiracy.

Has there been any word on when additional and/or GP testing will resume again? Obviously 4 testing stations for a city of 1 million + is an unfunny joke...

4?

Theres 15!

3 cases confirmed at Americold in Mt Wellington. Yea there's no way this lockdown is just 3 days. Id say level 4 very likely at this point.

Right now there is one source. The cooling store guy led to his 3 family members, and a student close to them and now 3 more cool store workers.

But where did the coolstore guy get it?

Another explanation is that someone else in the family got it elsewhere (the Finance company?), gave it to the cool store guy, who gave it to his 3 colleagues.

Level 3 or 4 for quite a while & level 2 for the rest of the country?

[There are countless stories of lax quarantine and testing measures in managed isolation. Bus drivers not being tested, nurses and security guards moonlighting. Yet Bloomfield says "no, that's not true, we have robust systems".  Yeah right!

Bloomfield may have been misled. The function off middle management is to stop bad news from rising.

Americold Melbourne has cases in the last week, ill look for a link. Maybe false alarm if the last sentence is correct

"

On Thursday, Winnall also confirmed there had been two confirmed cases at Americold's Melbourne facility in the past two weeks.

However, he said there was “absolutely” no relationship whatsoever between the Melbourne and Auckland facilities.

“There's no product going from one to another,” Winnall said."

And heres the backlash , that didnt take long . Just like the US .

" Lockdown protest stops traffic in Whangārei "
https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=12356284

Was it ever established that the 'lockdown', travel restrictions, quarenteening are 100% legal . I know its been tested in the courts tat least twice .
Could be the 'Bill of Rights' brings the legality into question , as has happened allready .

Yeah - but there was no contact between staff in the facilities.
The genome of cases here is similar to strains in UK and Australia.

If the genomes match between cases from both Americold sites, then that's suggesting the possibility of fomite transmission from a supplier.

Two press conferences tomorrow. One at 9am and an afternoon one. Wonder which one will be the lockdown update?

Err, they just said there would be a 1pm media conference, and then one later in the afternoon ( after cabinet) so its clear that the decisions on lockdown will be announced at the latter one.. ( although the 1pm briefing will give a good sense of direction)

No they don't, and I also wouldn't expect the details of every single machination of government to be announced. I would say that DHBs ramping up preparation for a second outbreak is just good practice and exactly what they should have been doing - like you say, not evidence of a conspiracy.

Just to clarify please @Fred99 are you saying that the virus can survive; either on the packaging or the meat itself, whilst in a refrigerated condition. If so this explains a lot concerning Community Transmission, not only here but the rest of the world.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.
