That possibly needed to happen .
But will have real consequences . There will be some who resist getting tested for that reason, or may just go into hiding .
Not everyone acts rationally , as we're seeing .

TBH half of South Auckland would quite like a fortnight in a reasonable hotel with 3 hot meals and free WiFi.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

Apparently that was just Auckland , bulk the managed isolation staff

40 Air NZ
47 immigration
52 biosecurity
141 customs
2700 managed isolation
2980 total Auckland

1089 Have had a test at some stage.

No more detail, but hopefully there will be a write up with break down on each category.

Because it's entirely voluntary for those working in the isolation facilities, for a start.

I guess the question I'd ask is when should they be tested? Daily? Weekly? If they have no symptoms...

I too am speechless.

Testing and border management are currently our only defense against this lethal pandemic.

Assuming that these statistics are correct, and that testing really is as readily available as is claimed ...

Regular testing should be a condition of their employment (at their employer's expense if necessary).

Our health, and the economy of NZ, are in the hands of these people - who are at high risk, and appear to be "flying blind" through no fault of their own.

Speechless but not surprised.

Speechless because you have MOH pleading for people to be tested, complaining that people are becoming complacent and that our testing rates are not high enough.

And then not having basic testing requirements for those individuals that are 1-degree or 2-degrees from the threat not being regularly tested. Every person that works in a MIQ or border-controlled environment should be tested weekly (using mobile testing facilities - take it to them, get them swabbed) without fail. To protect those individuals, their families and the general public.

Ensure that your border control procedures and cleaning procedures are working. How do you check this? Ensure that no-one working in those environments becomes infected either by accident or breach of protocol.

In fairness it's very hard to force someone to undergo a medical procedure (and doing so potentially brings a whole host of other issues), as much as it may have seemed to make sense in the circumstances.

It has also been made clear that other health checks do take place daily on those workers in the MIQ facilities, and that Covid swabs are a second line of defense.

I'm not surprised but I'm surprised the PM and AB aren't aware. Either way it's gonna be a hard sell tomorrow asking the public to remain at Alert Level 3 or 4 IF the breach came from within their own managed quantine.

It's gonna be an intriguing day tomorrow that's for sure.

It's gonna be an intriguing day tomorrow that's for sure.

I do hope this isn't the case - but I feel it's probably the most likely scenario. It will be interesting to see though if this is the case, how it got transmitted to the family at the center of the current cluster - given it's been stated there is no obvious link to the border/MIQ.
