Fast and easy to set up on an iphone, but crikey, talk about hard to read interface.

Can see a lot of people with less-than-perfect vision struggling to use it initially - I need glasses but for this I really needed my reading glasses.

Designers seem have have gone down the usual 'lets make as much of the app window white space and use small, thin fonts' route which is a bit disappointing for a health app.

Nowhere i’ve been has any evidence of using this. It just seems a bit....pointless.

Wrong order release. Put one out cause the people demand it. Worry about the business semantics later. I actually though they would have info-packed or released to NZBusiness register beforehand, But alas.

So with the trouble printing, and delays in business uptake. You can see why public are raging it can't read the current gap-fil QRs as they are expecting.

Yup but its an API so does need an app built to leverage this. I wouldn't be suprised to see the MOH app extended to take advantage of this capability. The further issue they have is thats its only available for those running the latest versions of the OS so they would need to possibily look and at a backup approach.

My wife was involved in a large government project that involved creating an app.

She was amazed to discover that the IT systems of the (large) Ministry concerned had exactly no cloud based systems nor any policies in place to manage how cloud services would (inevitably) mesh with their own systems. Consequently, I am unsurprised to see that this rollout is not as smooth as it could be!

For full disclosure, myself and a couple of other people had a meeting with some representatives of the MoH before the app was launched.

I don't think the statement above describes the situation at all.

(And no, we didn't create this thread before the app went public).

i do quite a bit with Government. Most of the large departments and probably most small have some cloud. Most, imho, have pretty limited expertise and poor policies. Here is a great example, and I’m only being slightly facetious, “the cloud works 7x24?? And they update when they update and I have to take the updates??”.

Govt departments have a culture of deferring maintenance and are struggling to adopt the continual update model (and 7x24 application support).

Continual update isn’t the same as devop’s, by the way.

Good that Kmart had it - retail might not be required to contact trace, but surely this can't hurt.

I'm not surprised Columbus didn't, as hospo is required to do quite stringent contact tracing and keep their own records I believe.

Columbus had paper you filled in - they were doing it, just not using the app

*don't want to accidentally get them in trouble - they were doing the right thing.

Yeah that's what I meant, just not worded very well. Hospo are required to keep their own records, not just rely on customers who may or may not have the app and scan the QR code.

I've decided to shelve using this app for the time being. Google location timeline currently records my movements/locations in detail and provides a much more complete timeline record than the app can achieve - plus Google is easier as I don't need to scan or write anything down.

If the app functionality increases beyond a simple location diary I'll take another look at it.

I think the app may work well for some people, but if you have Google location history enabled I really question why you would bother using the app as well?

Because if there's a confirmed case at certain location, a push notification is sent out and the app will let you know that a certain point you visited that location within a period of time that could mean you need to contact the MoH and perhaps get tested?

Some 'interesting' feedback - Radio NZ: Government's contact tracing app 'insufficient for businesses' - developer

One of the developers, Alan Chew, said the app that had been put out was "insufficient" for businesses' needs...

...Daily official briefings and ministry statements indicated the work was urgent, and epidemiologists were saying an app should be ready for the transition from level 4 to 3 in late April.

Instead, it took another three weeks to release.

Some other questions raised in the article about the overall process, capability of the app, transparency of the MoH and a few other issues.
