Its good to see some field reporters are doing it on air but are they wearing them all the time when they are not on air?

Some of those gatherings may still fall into being able to maintain distancing. But yes. Lead by example.

I don't see the reporter's efforts as good training. Rather fell good follow us! When noone else is at risk other than their cameraman. Which technically is workplace, so 1m.

As for off air. Probably about as much as the players in stand at the rugby.

If you wanted to educate a larger audience how not to. That was a great example

MikeB4: I feel there should be an independent oversight group created made up of legal, medical, financial folk to review what has been done and to continue monitoring ongoing management of this crisis. We simply don't have the benefit of being able to say ooops we got it wrong oh dear, how sad, too bad. Lost lives cannot be restored by apologies, speeches and group hugs. New Zealand has a history of mutual butt covering.

I'm liking some combination of this and Clark's royal commission proposal. RCs do a good job of covering all bases and realigning things. This Covid thing could go on for a while yet and it's likely we do need to look into all this and align a few things as a result. Even if it ends tomorrow something like this is needed in advance of any recurrence. I'm not sure what the right model is but RC is pretty close.

Fred99:
If you want to really kill the economy, then have everybody in the country wake up every morning thinking we're doomed / the world is ending.  It's a fine line between giving assurance that we'll be okay, so get on with normal life/business - and risking complacency.

Let's not forget that the economy is a theoretical thing based on what's happened in the past. As are estimates of whether it's doing well or not. Mostly the models are good and estimates are accurate, although sometimes economists disagree. Over time, different economists (e.g. Keynes, Friedman) have come up different models to describe economic activity, with one superseding another. We're in an unprecedented situation, so historical models are unlikely to be accurate, and predictions of e.g. doom if we lock down at L4 for another 6 weeks may or may not be accurate. For example, I don't believe anyone predicted the mini-boom of the NZ economy after the first lockdown.

You are confusing the economy with economics.

The economy is empirically measurable, economics is an academic construct to understand the economy.

TVNZ amchors state at the top of the crosses that the reporters are social distancing, only removing their mask when doing a live cross, and only then when there is no one else around

I guess everyone's seen the story of the UK buying non-existent vaccines from six different companies.

https://www.bbc.com/news/health-53772650

"It means the UK has placed orders for six experimental vaccines, taking its potential stockpile to 340 million doses.

In theory, there should be enough for everyone in the UK to get five doses. Most of the vaccines require only two.

With most vaccine trials ending in failure, the government is effectively hedging its bets, hoping that at least one of the vaccines it has purchased proves safe and effective.

The price being paid has not been revealed.

Kate Bingham, chair of the UK government Vaccine Taskforce, told the BBC: 'We don't know if any of these vaccine formats that we've acquired will actually work. There are no licensed vaccines for any human coronavirus.'"

The Jakarta Post: 'Vaccine nationalism': Is it every country for itself?

"t's dog eat dog in the world of COVID-19 vaccines.

That's the fear of global health agencies planning a scheme to bulk-buy and equitably distribute vaccines around the world. They are watching with dismay as some wealthier countries have decided to go it alone, striking deals with drugmakers to secure millions of doses of promising candidates for their citizens.

The deals - including those agreed by the United States, Britain and the European Union with the likes of Pfizer, BioNtech, AstraZeneca and Moderna - are undermining the global drive, experts say.

Probably to justify why they're seen NOT wearing, or a result after this case where it made it's way down.

- which when on their own, I think is fine. At least it stops what we have been seeing. Many not prepared or fitting, touching, slipping down the face and adjusting while on-air. Leading to the only presumption it is 'for show'

"Two men travel from Auckland to Hamilton casino - after lockdown"

A police spokeswoman said officers and members of the NZ Defence Force were stopping every vehicle attempting to travel through each checkpoint and speaking to every driver to understand their need for essential travel.

But she acknowledged that members of the public needed to be honest about their travel.

"To a certain extent, police and NZDF staff have to accept at face value the reasons for travel provided by motorists," the spokeswoman said.

Give us one reason these two shouldn't be fined and going to jail?

Forget the fine (it will never get paid)

We need to (legalize)/force immediate & mandatory 30day jail!(like other countries do) - then people will see the 'cost is not worth the risk'

The police & justice system are failing to live up to the expectations of general NZ society, through this Covid-19. - they have been totally out of touch with reality through this sadly.

Do we know if the MoH ever looked further into rapid testing like their doing overseas? I saw the FDA just gave emergency approval to a rapid saliva test from Yale. Or is it not worth it given the potential for inaccurate results?
