He said surveilance testing especially Maori/Padifika and South Auckland. I imagine they would go to them, random door to door, at supermarkets etc

They set up a pop-up community testing centre near the park by where I live. I thought I'd pull in there on the way home and do my bit, generate a data point etc. But it closed at 4pm, so it's totally inaccessible to anyone in the area who is an essential worker or who works during L3. Testing people who have the ability to have been isolated at home the whole time is so massively counter-intuitive that I can't understand why the hell they bothered.

I am also not sure what is going on with some mask wearers, but I have seen a significant number with them only covering their mouth, and not their nose. I thought it was common sense that it needs to cover both. Maybe they are doing it out of protest, or maybe people genuinely  don't know how to wear them.?

i wear glasses and i found that wearing the mask over the nose in certain places makes my glasses fog up with every breath and i have to wear it of my nose to stop it happening

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Do they all close at 4? Plus stay at home Mums, retired, unemployed will be far more active outdoors than you who are at work

Is there any chance that Auckland will stay in lockdown past Sunday - ie, there could be another announcement today that sees the lockdown continuing for another week.

Or is it set in stone that no matter what happens, Auckland will leave Level 3 on Sunday 11.59pm?

If so, I worry for the rest of the country.

A folded tissue at the top of the mask prevents glasses fogging, apparently.

That wasn't how I understood the statement from the PM when announcing the extension - was with a proviso of being subject to advice from the Ministry. Maybe if they haven't contained/traced adequately, they could drop down a level, but revise restrictions under that level to suit.

The Washington Post - Six feet may not be enough to protect against coronavirus, experts warn

today

Factors such as crowd density, ventilation, face masks and whether people are silent, speaking, shouting or singing should all be considered in assessing distance.

Public health experts are reevaluating guidelines for safe social distancing amid growing evidence that the novel coronavirus can travel farther than six feet under certain conditions.

A team of infectious-disease experts argues in a new analysis, published this week in the BMJ *, that six-feet protocols are too rigid and are based on outmoded science and observations of different viruses.

Other researchers say six feet is a start - but only a start, warning that more space is almost always better, especially in poorly ventilated areas indoors.

Factors such as air circulation, ventilation, exposure time, crowd density, whether people are wearing face masks and whether they are silent, speaking, shouting or singing should all be part of assessing whether six feet is sufficient, experts say.

Too much to hope it was going to start seeing between 1-3 today.

Noooo how about an entire family of 7 at MIQ and 5 still popping up 2 weeks later.

Sigh.

Do we place bets on the first area to pop up with an escapee holiday..

While on one level its disappointing to see we still have 5 cases.
On positive side people are fronting up to be tested at over 11K per day.

This group is linked to the church mini cluster so people from this church are getting tested , good on them.
In standup it was mentioned there was continuing co-operation with pastors for testing of communities closest to this as well as general test centers and pop ups.
In other parts of the country you may only see the one noisy exception, most are very co-operative pastors that really care for their communities, distributing masks and checking other needs re other emergency supplies as well.
Measles outbreak is fresh enough in many minds.
So there is a good chance we can be cautiously optimistic.

Biggest fight is probably with UnSocial media, targeting vulnerable, those with limited sources of information, a powerful force for evil unfortunately.

Its a privilege to be part of a diverse, but well moderated group here.

Melbourne are still in for a longer fight, the bigger the outbreak the slower you move the longer the damage taken.
As I see it better to move quick and imperfectly than delay.

I had the same problem, but I had a nurse show me how to properly put on a mask.

You can buy masks with a nose bridge or masks that can be shaped to fit the face. If you’ve decided to make your own masks, you can create a better fit for them by sewing pipe cleaners or twist ties into the top so they can be molded to fit the nose better.

If you can pull your mask up higher on your nose, you can use your glasses to seal it and shape it to your face. Just place your glasses right on top of the material that’s over your nose and make sure they don’t slide off. A secure fit will keep the warm air from escaping through the top of the mask.

Based on: https://www.odt.co.nz/news/national/12-new-cases-today-five-community

Robertson said there were two and a half days until Auckland moves to level 2.

Sounds like it is a done deal, Auckland moves to level 2 at 11.59pm Sunday, no matter what.

Let's just say I am not a happy camper with this news; I give it a month until we are all back in a level 3 or 4 lockdown to to "idiots"

Yup that's what I heard from the PM herself, they were not planning to review their decision. She said this about a day after the announcement of the level 2 date iirc. Then minister Hipkins said the dame thing a couple of days ago. Saw all these on one news.
