I see the App and MOH website now link from the Locations of Interest page to https://tracing.covid19.govt.nz/loi where you can self register as being at a location, rather than phoning Healthline. This would have to be a time saver for initial info gathering, assuming people fill it out correctly.

My phone appears to have received 14 new keys last night (around 2220hrs), and other's in our household around 2040hrs.

Still only 14 keys out of 687 positive with Covid-19 (as of now) though....

One more key is being pushed out at present - I got it about 20 mins ago.

Now I know I need to replace my iPhone 7 battery as my current one is at 74% health. But over the last week I have noticed that my phone was going flat very very fast and was having to place it on the charger twice a day. Yesterday I awoke and took my phone off the charger at 100%, went for an exercise walk around the neighbourhood and then stayed home. Come late afternoon phone was dead flat. Placed on charger and took it off at 100% at 2200. Left over night and awoke to a flat phone. Checked and saw that "Exposure Notifications" was using 32% during the previous 24hrs and the nearest other app was Music at 8%.

Battery health aside, 32% that is just plain ridiculous.

According to:

Pavan Vyas, CEO of Rush Digital which developed the NZ Covid Tracer app for the Ministry of Health, says the Apple Google Exposure Notification Framework (ENF) Bluetooth system doesn’t significantly drain battery life.

“On a typical iOS device, our tests have shown ENF has consumed three percent battery in 24 hours and that’s when a device is scanning for keys for four seconds every five minutes,” Vyas says. (For the record, Rush also currently estimates data usage as under three megabytes per year.)

The Covid Tracer blues

Now I notice that this article was written in February and we have had one or two app updates since then and also there has been controversy regarding the app's Bluetooth significance during this current Delta outbreak, so has this or these app updates, since the article, had an affect and is effectively increasing the battery usage contrary to Pavan Vyas above assertions in February?

Anyway, as suggested in the article, I have switched COVID app Bluetooth off and will only switch it back on when I am out and about.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

I’m on Apple so maybe different on Android, I thought each time was a check, playing around found it can be many checks.

I pressed on date and time, took me to a check details screen, then at bottom had new files which was scramble letters and numbers (Hexadecimal) pressed on that. Then on next screen had provided key count 14.

I take it that it was 14 different Bluetooth codes to check in one file.

I have BT and the COVID app Bluetooth on constantly.  The COVID app battery usage up to midday today is showing as 0.3%.

Have not noticed the COVID app impacting battery usage but then I always had BT on, even before I had the app (this being for an 'older' Android phone - Galaxy S8).

On iPhones exposure notifications shows as its own entity inside battery usage. I'm not sure if Android would be the same? Or it could show up as Google Play Services (I'm doubting it shows up under the covid tracer app)

Don't see that on my phone.  Just NZ COVID Tracer.  Now sitting at 0.5%.

The only other possibility is Google Play Services (9.3%).  Not certain what that is, especially as I have been out in the garden most of the day and barely used my phone.

==

I do have a Gear S3 watch constantly linked to my phone by BT.  That would have had a work out today ;).  Not certain what the power usage for that comes under.   Samsung Accessory Service (0.6%)?  Or Samsung Health (1.5%)?  Or One UI Home (3.4%)?

iPhone separates the battery usage, and you will see Exposure Notifications (i.e. bluetooth) and NZ Covid Tracer (the app) separately. The app doesn't use much battery, only the time you have it open to scan, and the occasional phoning home. Exposure notifications on the other hand can be very greedy; the highest I've seen it is 42% of battery usage.

So I noticed on Saturday while scanning into the local dairy that I was exposed at PaknSave on the 31st August. We hadn't shopped for 2 weeks to try and avoid things, go at 9pm and that was the time! The app doesn't seem to have push notifications so I only noticed while scanning into the dairy and there was a notice on the home screen.

It links to the Ministry of Health website where you need to search for the location and date. The advice for the specific location of interest is to monitor for symptons and if I become symptomatic, then self-isolate and get a test.

Later on I get some government Facebook advertisement to say if I was at a location of interest my entire household must to self-isolate....

I can see how many are not taking this seriously considering the complete inconsistency of messaging here........

Anyway fully vaccinated for 2 months, was wearing a mask and feeling fine. Will go with the MoH guidance thanks.....

Here's what the notification looks like. I don't have bluetooth on - just scanning into venues:
