This is gonna be a odd one. I have never been a smoker or addicted to alcohol, I can climb hills just fine but I socially smoke among friends, maybe one or two a week when out or shisha once or twice a month. Since I have given up on drinking a long time ago, it sometimes makes the whole out door with friends, bar scene a bit odd sitting or standing for me.

I wanted to go pick up a pack of throat cancers and carry them with me, what would be a good brand for starters, new to smoking folks as me? I want to walk into the nearest petrol station (or are they cheaper in the super markets?) and ask for them, which ones should I go for? I will probably smoke 1 a week or two when I am out or calm in the house.

Can't help you much but buy different ones and see? Probably the usual story of the higher cost the better the quality?

Seriously, don't do it. There's no one I know that was ultimately happy with the decision to smoke in the first place.

I too see a bad decision looming. Try not to think about it, it's so horrible for your health. I'm sure your family and non-smoking friends wouldn't want to see you paying corporations to poison yourself. Please don't do it!

Thanks Guys, I appreciate your concerns specially me being a stranger, friends and family has said similar thing, I would say the same thing to somebody as well. I moved to this small northland town recently and seems you cant socialize and make friends unless you drink or smoke, so I thought hey, since I don't drink, and do pick up a cig or other stuff from friends once in a while, why not pick up a pack of throat cancers and smoke one socially among new people to make myself blend in with them. :P..stupid idea..I know. i will leave them in my coat or in the car so I am not tempted. fingers crossed.

So I will just get a pack of Clovers or B n H regulars as someone suggested. Other suggestions welcome.

If these people won't socialise with you if you don't smoke and drink, they're probably not the sort of people who are good to be socialising with. Steer clear.

I know you didn't ask for a lecture, but...

I smoked for 20 years and I can just about guarentee that the decision to buy a pack is the beginning of the end.  I strongly urge you not do it.  However, I'd kill for a Marlboro - so I guess that's my recommendation.

Don't Smoke, if you "need" to smoke to be social get one of the electronic ones without niccotine in them? at least then, you can be seen as smoking and be social without the addictive substance in it.

personally I smoke Dunhill Reds

I started during the Christchurch Quakes, I have cut down now however when I do smoke I do like Marlboro Golds.

Each person has their own opinion however we're adults and can make our own decisions to life.

Totally Agree, Very well said, Its not that they wont socialize but trying to meet new people when going out some times weekends / nights at bar or party type environments, a lot of the women i meet ask me why i dont drink, just this other day I was on a date and she asked me for a smoke.. just makes me feel socially awkward.

The electronic ones feel a bit dodgy and gay :D.

Dunhill Reds look real nice, well packaged, but not sure how they look in nz packaging, how much are they in the gas stations for a pack of 20's?

Doesn't know what he doin

Not my place to judge so I'll save the speech.

I started on Marlborough Golds, smooth, easy cigarette. Not as strong as most that I've tried and the smell is no where near as revolting as a Red.

Usually a social smoker now which is good, I think I got lucky since I'm able to stop and start as I please.
