Has anyone here had any experience with Australia and NSW Covid tracer apps?

I am going to Sydney for a couple of days and found there are two "tracer" apps (on Android):

Service NSW – Apps on Google Play

COVIDSafe – Apps on Google Play

Service NSW seems to scan COVIDSafe QR codes so it seems I can use this one. The COVIDSafe on the other hand seems to be an Australian initiative and uses Bluetooth. I tried to register but it says my phone number has already reached the limit of registrations - on my first attempt. I suspect it just doesn't like my six-digit New Zealand mobile number but instead of giving an error message it just spits out something else.

Can I just use Service NSW?

Never mind... COVIDSafe FAQ says "Note: Registration will only work when you are located in Australia."

So I have to wait until I am there to register for it.

But really, the error message is wrong.

Hi Mauricio.
I was in Queensland and NSW last week.
I had the same issue with the COVIDSafe app while in NZ, and provided feedback about the error message. The app worked fine once I was in Australia. My battery was getting drained quickly (iPhone 8 mini).

Have your mask ready.

At the end I couldn't register even after landing in Sydney. Forget about the COVIDSafe app - just used the Service NSW app, which scans the same codes.

Keeping it on my phone for a few weeks, in case there's a notification or something.
