Hi There!

I went into a supermarket yesterday and found that they have finally released the Gillette ProGlide 5 Blade system. I bought one and after having not shaved in the weekend shaved in the shower as I normally do using Shave Oil from King of Shaves.

Colour me impressed. I can't recall a better result! I have shaved with almost all of the major brands and released products, and I can say this was the nicest thing to shave with and produced a really close shave.

I am fairly fanatical about my shaves, I shave against the grain to ensure I am as smooth as it's possible to be.

The design still misses the same areas that this brand have always missed, cheekbones, I can't seem to get close enough for the perfect shave there, and under my nose where my upper lip meets my nose, but still overall, it's better than the prior model the fusion and I'll make a permanent change to these instead.

Best $17 I spent this month!

I'll keep that in mind. I've never found a good fit with razors so always keen to try something new.

That said, I'm not shaving again until it gets above 11 degrees!

I vote for shaving in the shower.

I also recently switched to another brand with their 5 blade system (Shick Hydro). It's more coarse, but does do the job reasonably well, it releases a lot of gel which stops razer burn (I used to shave with no lubricant at all), everytime I use a new razer it takes my face about 20 shaves to adjust, including switching between electric and non. I like electric because I can shave in the car which keeps the shower time down and gives me something to do, but I've never found a system that shaves like a hand razer.

Best shave I had was in Fiji from a barber who cut my hair with a razer (Flat top), took him perhaps 3 minutes to cut my hair and shave me, both were amazing (best flat top I've had), but seeing him pull out this razer thing was terrifying since I was quite young and a friend took me down some dark alley to get there.

I'm a Mach 3 Turbo shower shaver, and nothing beats good old soap! Never used shaving cream.

freitasm: I like shaving in the shower since a shower is the equivalent of a cup of coffee for me, but I do worry about the amount of water I use. :)

Soap is a bit harsh, as it dries your skin. I use King of Shaves oil only, nothing else. Have used it for about twelve years now.

freitasm: I love the blue coloured stuff, but recently I couldn't find it and used the silicon stuff, I like it less, but it's better than anything else.

Don't know if my skin is different than most, but never had any worries with soap, I mean in a nice hot shower it's fine. Will keep a lookout for a Proglide 5 promo if there is one, might have a try. Ever since moving up from the 2 blade (Contour I think it was called), I have had no problems at all with cuts & nicks. So haven't seen the need to upgrade but might be time to take another look.

It's not the where I shave, it's the where I go after I shave that's the problem :)

2 blades, 3 bades, 5 blades... where will it end???
I know I'll put a few dozen blades together and motorise them for an even closer cleaner shave....

(used to scrape by with a Wilkinson, but they seem to have disappeared from the local market)

oxnsox: I thought the difference between 2-3 and 3-5 was reasonable.
