Yeah , Welly has reasonable storage, but its biggest advantage is that it has a pipeline from the tanker wharf to the Airport Tanks , so no Trucks are needed,

Its downside is the runway is too short for the flights to have any pax or cargo...

There is a ocean tanker heading to Welly for SUnday to top everything back up

I kinda hope we get to see a 777-300ER sent to Wellington for fueling, yesterday's 777 was able to take off with full fuel load I believe as it had no passengers or freight on board.

The AKL airport schedule shows diverts and where too. If you see a NZ6xxx to WLG its probably for gas for a week or so

You guys work at the airport and wander around with a telephoto camera?

To be honest it was a tweet from @sbiddle saying there was a Dreamliner en-route so I grabbed the Camera and headed to the hill at the northern end of the runway next to Weta. Just a bit disappointed not long after I got there that the wind swung around the planes started coming in from the south.

It wouldn't actually be full - because it then would probably exceed the max landing weight at AKL.

The 777 yesterday was only heading to BNE this morning whereas the 789 today was off to EZE.

In New Zealand, the mentality is "it's never happened before, why are you worried?".

It's never happened before, she'll be right.

Even if it's happened once, they call it a 1 in a 100 (or other number) year event, and so she'll also be right.

There is nobody even in the industry calling for another pipeline.

There is always those who jump up and down saying "I told you so" every time something happens. Sure it would have been looked at but deemed viable probably not. The Titanic sunk.

Who cares, It has happened, We have no redundancy. Oohhhh but I told you so!
Hindsight is the best sight for the second time today.

Lets start the Geekzone Fuel Cooperative initiative. We all go get 750L tankers to tow behind our vehicles and start transporting fuel! Other than that we are all a bunch of critical spectators.

You're normalising incompetence. Yes, there absolutely almost always are people who warned that something was being done poorly. They are very often absolutely correct.

They aren't the problem. The problem is decision-makers who tried to do critical stuff on the cheap and who don't learn from experience.

There's the real problem.

Both major operating systems have select/cut for a while now. It is a pain on mobile and takes practice, that's true.

RNZ: The man said the swamp kauri diggers who excavated the property two to three years ago were operating at some distance from the pipeline easement, which was clearly marked. But he said it might have been a kauri buried beneath the pipe that scraped it as it was pulled from the ground.

Mr Post said there was no evidence of any threat to the integrity of the pipe at the Ruakaka site during the last pig-run in 2014. "It [the device] gives us back every rust spot on the line; every scratch. It tells us, this many millimetres over there, there is a pit one millimetre deep, for instance. "Then we have a preventative maintenance programme, and we go where those pits appear, we dig the pipe up and repair those pits. So we build confidence in the system that it predicts where those pits are with total accuracy," he said.

Next run was due in October. They almost got it. More Kauri speculation, but it's still the leading candidate.

That is a nice photo of the 787. With apps like Planefinder and Flightradar24 making things easier for the enthusiasts there would have been a few out there having a look.

That's quite a selective view. Are you also one of the people who believe NZ's internet is "third world" and "vastly over priced" ?

We have a population of 5M people. Sydney has just under 5M. Easy to justify the cost of a bigger bridge with a larger population and tax base.

You could pretty much apply that to everything else as well.

We should have rail, agreed to the airport, but it's expensive.

The Sydney Harbour Bridge was built in 1923 when the population of all Australia was 5.6 million.

(Toronto's Subway system was built when the city had 800,000 people).

The excuse that NZ is small proves to be weak when you look at many other places. They built more when they had the same or less. NZ has too often been too cheap to do it right.
