Most councils seem to be frustratingly relaxed about parking enforcement. I suspect the reasons are largely political, as a large proportion of the voting public seem to believe that footpaths, cycleways, and private property should be available as public parking.

Don't try that out too much in Wellington...

I live in Wellington and there are cars all over the footpath despite the council stating that they were going to crack down on it a year ago.

Driving across the Kaimai's to Tauranga yesterday morning. Came across a ute coming the other way with the driver holding a "Stop" sign out the drivers window. Never seen that before and as there was nothing following him I continued to proceed with caution as did the vehicle in front. Then another ute came towards me with another driver vigorously waving a "Stop" sign. Still no sign of anything following the ute that would require stopping for.

We were now approaching a bridge which was followed by a blind corner. The vehicle in front of me continued, but I elected to slow down and eventually stop well short of the bridge. The driver of the second ute seemed pretty animated and I figured caution was the better option.

The dickhead in the White Toyota behind me initially stopped then decided he would over take and continue on. As he approached the bridge a truck with a very oversized load came round the bend and down onto the bridge - at pace. Dickhead stopped almost on the bridge.

The truck driver gave a long blast on the air horns. There wasn't room for him to proceed with dickhead stopped where he was and the truck wasn't slowing much if at all. Dickhead realised that he needed to back up- and be very fast about it. There was only a split second and a matter in about 6 inches clearance as the truck continued past and dickhead got a very close view of the oversized load. MYT** was nearly not so mighty.

Why do people have to be so silly? He came within a split second of being wiped out. To be fair the pilot vehicles weren't doing a particularly good job being so far in front of their target vehicle but you'd think that with two vehicles with "Stop" signs and especially how animated the second one was that you might stop and wait.

If the pilot vehicles weren't signed as pilot vehicles then they're also muppets.

Sounds like all involved were muppets.

Driving with an oversized load requires a suitably qualified pilot in a correctly equipped pilot vehicle.

Truck driver should have slowed down for bridge.

"Pilots" should have stopped vehicles driving on to the bridge.

Some idiots trying to do it on the cheap!

Sadly I think this is indicative of the ever increasing proportion of the population with an I don't care/I can do as I like attitude. The same person will drive all day in the righthand lane blocking the progress of faster traffic as if it's their right to stay there when the road rules and common sense say they should pull left.

As it is PARKING related, it is NOT a Police matter.

CCC are responsible and do VERY LITTLE policing!

Never written a ticket or come for a Cycleway call, and only show up for about 1 in 10 Hydrant calls!

My understanding is that the police can deal with stationary vehicle offenses in addition to the council, but tend to only do so in limited circumstances. i.e. illegal parking around school pickup time, instructing vehicles to move that are illegally parked and blocking lanes etc.

This Muppet drew attention to the car!

Plenty of legal parks to choose from!

On the Hydrant = $60 / No Registration = $200 / No WOF = $200 !!!

Bullseye!

Encountered this going around a corner in the Wairarapa.

It's a screenshot of my dashcam video because I don't know how post videos to GZ.

It was going way too fast and was almost tipping over in an attempt to get back onto the correct side of the road. Barriers on both sides of the road, so no where to go for us.
Shame it's not quite clear enough to make out the whole numberplate.
Saw more bad driving in one weekend in NZ than our whole holiday in Oz.

Look out the gate, and what do I see.....Kiwigas as usual, parked in the Cycleway!

There are legal parks less than 20 metres away!

Rang the Operations Manager who said "That's what you get with the CCC removing carparks and putting in Cycleways!".

Wonderful (NOT) attitude!

Both of those incidents are just incredible from "professional drivers".

The one in the news article with the pedestrian and cyclist could have had such a different (and tragic) outcome.
