Handsomedan:

The one in the news article with the pedestrian and cyclist could have had such a different (and tragic) outcome.

Alternative view could be did cyclist give any warning they were stopping? The pedestrian appeared to come out of the shop or an alleyway and only just reached the crossing as the truck went through it. The right of way is still subject to laws of physics.

From Road User Rules

"11.5 Entering crossings
A pedestrian or a rider of a mobility device or wheeled recreational device must not suddenly enter a pedestrian crossing when an approaching vehicle is so close to the pedestrian crossing that the driver of the vehicle is unable to give way to the pedestrian or the driver or rider of the device."

The average is still 5 per weekday like this!

Good advertising - I noticed!

BULLSEYE!!!

I saw someone park on top of one today.

Me, pointing: "You're on the fire hydrant."

Her: "It's all good; no fires planned today!"

Forgot to share my muppet moment.

My footage starts at 3:30 minutes in (should start there already). I hate people transporting stuff in traffic.

Arrogant ignoramus.

No fires planned on any day BUT they still happen,... when you least expect them.

How some people go through life performing these stunts and don't end up with a broken nose or black eye sure beats me.

Driving on the Southern Motor heading into Auckland yesterday travelling at the speed limit in the right hand lane, moderate traffic flow.

In the rear view mirror some distance behind me I see an ambulance approaching, lights flashing, siren blaring The traffic in the right hand lane, including myself, all moved left to allow its progress. That is except for one plonker in a van several hundred metres in front of me. The ambulance in the end had to pull left and undertake the idiot van driver.

The one that staggered me recently - driving along the Whangaparaoa road and I see an Ambo with lights flashing approaching from behind at speed.  Cars duly pull over to let it past.  One car then pulls out and follows right on the ambo's bumper, doing about 75kph in the 50 zone past the line of traffic.  And it wasn't a doctor following to the emergency because a km or so further up the road the car was parked outside a house

There's nearly always the dickhead(s) who use an emergency vehicle to overtake those who pulled over.

Travelling south on the Desert Road just south of the Three Sisters. We were number 4 in line behind an articulated truck , followed by a small Toyota (Yaris?), a Ute and then us.

At the start of an over taking lane the truck stayed in the left lane and the three vehicles behind pulled right into the overtaking lane. The Toyota instead of over taking the truck is actually getting ready to turn right to park on the other side of the road, and slows to a stop in the passing lane. This is the last thing you expect to happen. The Ute in front has to brake unexpectedly and we both end undertaking the muppet in the Toyota.

I, and I expect most drivers would have the expectation that someone wishing to do what the Toyota driver wanted to do would have checked what traffic was approaching from the front and behind and then and only then if it was clear decide to turn right directly from the passing lane, otherwise they would pull left onto the verge and stop, then proceed when the road was clear.

Some drivers are so disconnected from their environment they seem to have no idea about what's going on around them most particularly behind them. I'm sure if you removed the rear view mirrors from their cars they wouldn't even notice. With muppets like this no wonder we have so many accidents. Fortunately for the muppet in the Toyota the Ute driver was paying attention otherwise the outcome may have been very different.

Makes you wonder what other carnage this and other muppets like this leave in their wake while they carry on blissfully unaware. They don't deserve to be in charge of a shopping trolley much less a motor vehicle.

Those are three sisters I'd like to see buried in concrete.

In terms of a piece of road, they are quite interesting to drive.  However, as the main link up the country, highly sub-optimal.

Other interesting trips are

Whangaehu Valley Road

I have also driven (for just the hell of it) from Napier shore to New Plymouth shore via Gentle Annie, up to Taumarunui, through the Forgotten Highway.
