If you have got leaf spy, use it to collect efficiency data for your car. ie km/kw and average speed between points and you'll get more confident when you have hard numbers.
ChargeNet announced yesterday (Friday 9th March 2018) their rapid charger in Kaitaia is now open. It supports the usual ChargeNet connectors: 50kw CHAdeMO and CCS 2.
Along with the recent opening of the Keri Keri charger, it's now possible to drive easily from Auckland to Kaitaia in any EV capable of DC fast charging with these connectors.
From Kaitaia to Bluff the only significant remaining gaps are at the top of the South Island from Picton to Christchurch. The rest of NZ on SH1 is now easy for all but the most humble of EVs.

I wonder when the Waihi one will be on line. Hopefully picking up a Gen1 LEAF this Friday in Auckland at 76% SOH. Thinking TeKawhata to Waihi is more easy than Cambridge to Tauranga in this car but unlikely to be done by then.

I'm going to drive to wanaka for the airshow for Easter.
According to chargenet map Milton, Cromwell and Frankton should also all be done by end of march.
I cant get away from work for the EV meetup in the Octagon on the 16th of March
That is a significant increase in chargers in the south of the south since I last looked; no longer are we the obsolete black hole.
Hmmm renting an eGolf eh...I have a wedding in Tauranga that I have to drive down to...
Frankton (but not the Queenstown one) Chargenet charger is up.

I'll be down there in a few weeks and was thinking of renting an e-Golf and touring the new chargers and taking my 360 VR images.
Appologies if you answered this already, but where can I rent an e-Golf? Any place in Wellington?

Europcar have them at AKL, WLG and CHC airports,
Some more new ChargeNet fast chargers have opened for business in the past 10 days:
Hawera (at the Pak n Save - 38-48 Princes St) becomes the 'other' DC fast charger in Taranaki (joining New Plymouth - one of the older ones).....but still hard to get to either of them from elsewhere in a LEAF. You'd need a longer range EV to make the 163km from Te Kuiti to New Plymouth or the 162km from Palmerston North to Hawera. Both roads can be pretty windy......
Orewa (New World - 11 Moana Ave) - effectively a destination charger for locals and people visiting Orewa. It's well off (toll road) SH1, but close to the free route north.
Kaikohe (Kaikohe Library - 81 Broadway - "Behind Cafe Malaahi. Take the service lane between 5 and 7 Raihara Street, turn right."). This one is operating, but not officially open. It can be used now, but may not be 100% reliable until fully open. This is one is the first of several 25kw DC fast chargers that will be installed in the far North by ChargeNet.
Almost..........
Waihi - (New World in Kenny St) - This charger in installed and connected and is just awaiting a meter. It could become active any day now. For me, this means I can drive direct from Auckland to Waihi, charge to 60% or 80% and go to Tauranga. It will save me about half an hour being able to take the "usual" route via Ngatea to Paeroa instead of deviating up to Thames, then back down again.....and a few minutes on the charger as I won't need as much because it's a more direct route.
