That's interesting. I wonder if these guys will apply the Japan model update if and when it becomes available. That Nissan NZ email earlier in the thread seemed almost certain there would be a Japan model update available sometime soon.

I walk past my local Nissan dealer (PN) every day and noticed they've got a number of Leafs in stock now (not that they seem to be selling fast - not surprising given they're priced on the high side!), and previously they've had none - can I assume they also have such 'approval' to stock them?

Firstly I have always found Nissan ( J Wright Hamilton) very good to deal with. I have had Nissans since 1968 (then Datsun I have never had any trouble with my dealer. A couple of months after my buying a Leaf ( not from JW Nissan they didn't have any 30kwh) I had a small ding ( my fault) Rang Nissan they picked up my car and got the parts for my Leaf no problems at all. 8 months ago some idiot back into my car while parked at a golf course The front door had to be replaced. English version. Once again Nissan sourced this for me. I suspect those who have bought their vehicle from a Nissan dealer will get the upgrade shortly. I feel some of you are being very hard on Nissan. Buy any thing from any dealer especially from overseas and I am sure you will struggle to get the local NZ branch will also be slow to respond I may be wrong but this my experience especially in the technology field. For those of you who think Leafs are not your deal Go and drive one you wont regret it. I could never return to an ICE. My dealer is going to upgrade my software mid August.

I suppose the frustration is that Nissan don't seem to be interested.

I'm sure many people would be ok with paying for the software upgrade to reflect that Nissan NZ didn't sell them originally.

That there are third parties charging enough money for it to be worth their time weakens Nissans approach of trying to be reasonable.

Sure, but that's allowed by Toyota NZ. With the Leaf, Nissan NZ appears to have been highly reticent in allowing its dealers to bring in Leafs.

I recall the first Leaf I took for a test drive - at least a couple of years back - was at a car yard owned by the same individual who owns the city's Nissan dealership (he seems to own most of the ones in town!) - the salesman said they'd been banned from selling them at the Nissan yard, so were forced to do so at their general/trade-ins yard.

Clearly this policy is being relaxed somewhat, dealership-by-dealership.

I'm guessing its related to the fact that they have announced they will sell the 2.0 as a new car... so they are going to have to "hopefully" have trained and knowledgeable dealers,

Although I do hope it goes better than the last time......

Hi all,

just an interesting (and possibly useless) bit of information. Found a nice long self tapping screw in my left rear tyre on our 2016 30KWh LEAF last night. Thankfully I bought a space saver tyre the week after we bought the car, so took the wheel off and replaced it with the space saver. Went to pick up my son from Cubs, and found that there was no regen - absolutely zero. Didn't matter if it was in D, ECO, or B. No regen lights on the dash or the centre console, and no feeling of regen braking, at all. It felt just like a 'normal' car. The car is of course sitting down very noticeably on the left rear corner.

Had full regen minutes before pulling up at home and then noticing the screw. But nothing at all with the space saver on.

I am surmising this is a safety feature, so that the car doesn't 'brake' too hard semi autonomously on uneven ground. B mode especially, is very aggressive.

Did a Google search and found no mention of this. Don't know if anybody else has ever noticed this?

Will put the repaired wheel back on tonight so the regen should be back, hopefully.

Does your leaf have TPMS (low tyre pressure monitoring) - I know its standard in the US, and EU, but not sure about Japan,

TPMS gets disabled when you put on a spare (without TPMS equipment)-

I'm suspecting that regen may not function if the TPMS isn't working....

TPMS is easy enough to add, but I don't know if will work in a Japanese Leaf. Has anyone done it?

I don't know the answer to the lack of regen for certain but I'd think it was more likely something to do with the differing wheel diameter upsetting traction control/ABS. If/because the space saver is a different diameter to the other wheels it will be spinning at a different speed which may make ABS/Traction control think that it is in a skid/slide and disable regen braking to enable the hydraulic brakes to have full control/authority and correct the problem without interference/exacerbation from regen braking.

Think about it, (if you've done a driving course) in a slide in a manual ICE you are supposed to depress the clutch to remove engine braking (and/or engine drive) so as to unload the tires and regain traction sooner.

No warning lights at all.

Your reasoning seems pretty sound, that could well be the case. Probably more likely than my idea.

I think Nissan Leaf does not ship with a spare tyre or even space saver.
