gzt: I think Nissan Leaf does not ship with a spare tyre or even space saver.
It wouldn't get a WOF without one if that was the case

It is true and it does get a WOF. You will see here that a spare is not required in order to get a WOF (see section 18, "A spare tyre, if carried is not...").
My Leaf came with a can of goop and a 12V air pump.

Elliemay:
Hi all,
just an interesting (and possibly useless) bit of information. Found a nice long self tapping screw in my left rear tyre on our 2016 30KWh LEAF last night. Thankfully I bought a space saver tyre the week after we bought the car, so took the wheel off and replaced it with the space saver. Went to pick up my son from Cubs, and found that there was no regen - absolutely zero. Didn't matter if it was in D, ECO, or B. No regen lights on the dash or the centre console, and no feeling of regen braking, at all. It felt just like a 'normal' car. The car is of course sitting down very noticeably on the left rear corner.
Had full regen minutes before pulling up at home and then noticing the screw. But nothing at all with the space saver on.
I am surmising this is a safety feature, so that the car doesn't 'brake' too hard semi autonomously on uneven ground. B mode especially, is very aggressive.
Did a Google search and found no mention of this. Don't know if anybody else has ever noticed this?
Will put the repaired wheel back on tonight so the regen should be back, hopefully.
So....drove the car again with the space saver with the same result - no regen. Put the now repaired original tyre/wheel back on and went for a drive, regen now working on all settings - D, Eco, B, and friction braking.
Phew.
Any one else here imported their own leaf? Who did you use? how did you find the process?
i'm about to start bidding on a 2013/14 leafs with JPC Trade.
looks like you can buy them for between $6-12k depending on km's and grade. FOB, Shipping, compliance and GST on top of that.
Not much use having a spare wheel if it's at home, is it?

I initially thought Leafs had no spare due to weight savings or because the under-body Tupperware got in the way but my mates ICE Nissan station wagon also has no place to put a space-saver/spare. It seems like corner cutting to me. I bought a space saver & keep it in the boot, but it gets in the way. Makes the already small boot even smaller. Nissan just doesn't seem to make use of the available space like Toyota does. I keep finding big empty voids in the car that could have been used the make pockets bigger, or passenger/cargo spaces bigger. It's as if separate teams designed the exterior and interior and didn't talk to each other.

Got it in one, but its not just EVs, as you mentioned they do it on ICEs too. its all about boosting MPGs...

Does anyone know if its possible to change the software on the head unit to be in english?
I know the dash can be done easily, and the head unit can be swapped for a US one, but that costs a lot more than I think its worth.
No, JDM head decks can not be flashed to English like the dash can. Requires open heart surgery or something on the head deck. It's been talked about earlier in the thread, so have a search for more detail.
I have a USA head deck (installed by the dealer as part of the package) and the English menu's are good, but the FM is garbage. You need a 0.1 MHz band expander and even with it the FM reception is pretty scratchy (I no longer listen to the drive shows). USB, CD & Bluetooth work good. haven't tried AM but I imagine it won't work right due to differences in the NZ & USA freq stepping.
