Chargenet app has the Milton and Cromwell chargers live.
So for dunedin to wanaka/queenstown trips.
- Dunedin, Milton, Lawrence, Roxburgh, Alexandra, Cromwell then on to Wanaka or Frankton
A.
Has anyone heard or seen and developments on the proposed charger in Tirau?
Murapara now showing as up and running on Chargenet - also it is free.
TL:DR but there are two Tesla chargers at the place I stayed in Wanaka recently, Oakridge Resort.

There have been several new chargers over the past few weeks.
Overall, as of May 3rd, ChargeNet had reach 75 DC Fast chargers installed around NZ. That's impressive....and represents an investment in the several millions by Steve and Dee West with EV number currently between 7000 and 8000.....and most of those charge at home most of the time.
Mt Maunganui
There is a new Delta (the manufacturer) 25kw DC fast charger in the parking area beneath the New World in Mt Maunganui. I've used it several times. It has some advantages. The slower charge rate means a battery is much less likely to warm rapidly. Mine goes up about 4C start to finish.......and that's from 30% to 100%. Yes...these chargers let you charge to 100%. That extra 5% can be pretty useful. Because it is slower, the per minute charge is 15 cents instead of 25 cents. A kWh still costs 25 cents.
Waihi
This charger has been open for a while but I'm mentioning it again because it changed my life. My 30kWh LEAF is able to drive non-stop from Greenlane in Auckland to Waihi at the posted speeds limits - with ease. A 15-17 min charge at Waihi to 80% gets me to Tauranga on about 35%......and 45 mins on the 25kw DC charger sees me driving to Opotiki non-stop with majro electrons to spare......and the battery hasn't hit anything over 40C at any point.
Awesome.
Spring Creek
Blenhiem now has a DC fast charger! Plus, it's only 128km from there to Kaikoura on SH1....and then 104km from Kaikoura to Culverden on SH70 + SH7.......and then just 98km from Culverden to Christchurch on SH7 and SH1.
It's FINALLY possible for most EVs but the most humble to drive from Picton to Christchurch - mostly on SH1 - in just a few hours like everyone else.
Milton
South of Dunedin. Another charger on SH1 to provide some redundancy and keep charging hops short. Also useful is the only fast charger in Dunedin is broken or blocked or has a long queue.
Cromwell
Filing in the gaps in the hinterland.....I'm going to have to drive all of these soon. In the Spring......
Amberley
North of Christchurch and 134km south of Kaikoura on SH1, anyone with a Hyundai Ioniq, BMW i3, Tesla or VW e-Golf can now easily drive from Picton to Christchurch right down SH1 - no issues.

Just in.....WEL announced this afternoon (2018-06-26) their new fast charger at Hampton Downs (between Meremere and Te Kauwhata on SH1) is operational.
Gate 1, Hampton Downs Motorsport Park, Hampton Downs, Waikato 3782
It has 50kw CCS2 and CHAdeMO tethered connectors.
What isn't clear is whether the Type 2 AC is a 22kw socket or a 43kw tethered connector like the one at Te Kauwhata.
Update: I went and had a look. It's a 22kw Type 2 socket. BYO cable.

Someone should tell Tesla corporate,
They are still not listed as live their own website yet :)

This ^^^.
Absolute ‘noobie’ range anxiety struck again for the first time in a year coming from Cambridge to Rotorua today... GoM on my 10 bar leaf read 9kms when google maps told me 22kms to go just before the top of the ‘pass’ coming along the ‘Thermal Highway’ (5) 😳
Funnily enough I reached the charger in Rotorua 22kms later with 10kms left on the GoM (after climbing to 13 at one stage coasting/regenning my way down the other side.
If Greenrace hadn’t assured me it was possible I would probably have pulled up and hunted for a friendly 8A connection 😅
In other (relevant?) news, a Gen1 30kw Leaf just did the Cape to Cairo!
