What is a Gen4? Is that 2018?
Aka leaf 2.0, yip its the 2018 model
I wonder if the CarPlay/Android head unit would fit in a 2016 hmmm. :p
I've read a 2013-2015 UK head deck won't even play nicely with 2013-2015 JDM and they're the same basic chassis/battery/motor so possibly wishful thinking.

Some dealers put American 2016 head units into Japanese Leafs, so its definitely possible, even with the buttons reversed. I don't really see the point since there is no additional functionality when you swap head units like that, both don't work in NZ!
But CarPlay is an upgrade I'd pay for, as long as I don't lose my 360 cameras and climate control/timers.
happyfunball:
Does it support Apple/Google maps with CarPlay or Android Auto, or does it use built in maps?
In-dash Android Auto and CarPlay are both supported. I've tried out Android Auto which basically looks just like it does when displayed on my phone, but it's great to have it integrated. Built in maps are available - an SD card slot just above the display ("Maps") contains a Nissan EU card. I wish there was one for NZ in there!
The built-in UI offers to find charging stations etc but I think I will be fine with Android Auto when driving.
I am interested in being able to track charge status when the car is charging. So far, not quite sure how to do that with the currently available tools.
Everyone is new sometime.

Yeah, USA and UK are not the same to swap. Dealer put a USA head deck in my Leaf. USA head deck and JDM car are (mostly) compatible. The AM is not compatible with NZ (meh?) but more importantly for me the FM is not compatible with AKL stations so I was looking at fitting a UK head deck but read that the UK head decks don't swap out nicely like the USA ones do.
The English makes it easier to set the clock and the charging the climate control timers, but yes, not a lot of point other than that.
Just noticed this has recently appeared on Nissan NZ's website: http://www.nissan.co.nz/cars-vehicles/all-new-leaf/overview

The Japanese version is not compatible with FM either, but a simple band-expander works fine. I guess the US version could use a band expander too?

Hopefully they get some fleet sales.

Maybe... Maybe not..
Japan like NZ uses 100khz spacing between FM stations.... 90.9 91 91.1 etc, so while the frequencies used are lower than ours, you can use a bank expander to push the frequencies up...
The US use 200khz starting at .1 so there stations are 90.9 91.1 91.3 etc.... Which means if its a US specific stereo you might be restricted in what stations you can get ( no even frequencies allowed :)....

The software in the cars is different, I think. JDM LEAFS come with things like lane-assist....whereas the UK LEAFs don't at any trim level. That could explain why the head units aren't swappable. The differences may well be more than just language.

Yes, I have a 0.1 MHz band expander/shifter and TBH it is awful.
It works and makes the difference between getting 15 stations or getting nothing, but it is very scratchy, I think it might be mono, and the signal drops out far sooner than a regular FM head-deck. If you've ever noticed how Japanese band expanders sometimes struggle when you are too close to strong FM signals (such is in AKL near the Skytower) well the 0.1 MHz band expander is like that all the time. I suspect that because FM stereo has a bandwidth of 200KHz, and the signal is shifted only 100KHz, the shifted signal overlaps with the original signal and sound quality suffers. Same as having an FM transmitter set to a freq that is too close to a commercial station.
