What difference does 30 minutes actually make on such a long drive? Given that you should have stopped for a break at least 3 or 4 times over 8 hours, an additional 30 minutes is neither here nor there really. I find that if you plan on the assumption 80km will be your speed rather than 100, you usually get there about when you thought you would.

I dont think I have ever stopped for a break on a journey around NZ that wasnt enforced by having to get out of the car because of a ferry.

Hell, I have done auckland to wellington, pick up a thing bought off trademe and back again with only one stop for a pee and a fill up somewhere near rotovegas each way.

On the motorways now I try to stay in the middle lane and if I need to pass then move to the right and then back to the middle.
However you do get people that travel 90 - 95 in the right lane and miles ahead of them clear yet 12 or so cars behind them.
I saw 1 lady the other week in the right hand land with a cop behind her with lights on and sirens going and all she did was freak out, tried to pull over to the right side of the road, I ended up having to back right off in my middle lane to let the cop get around her.

I do find truck drivers the worst however, they are great at sitting in the right hand lane going 80/90km's, not letting people in and thinking its a game to block 2 lanes (middle and right) with their other truck friends and doing the same speed.
Oh the other thing that gets me to is when you indicate to change lanes and the muppet in the lane speeds up to block you.
Also trades people on cellphones, just get hands free kit.

Yes a lot of things bug me when I drive.

Theres not much in it and I try to stay off 1 as much as possible because it gets full of "special people". Going down the left side of taupo was not as nice the last time I did it.

I know that when my speedo reads 100 that I am actually doing 95km/h. I've tested it by several different methods so I know that it needs to read 105 and then I am going 100km/h.

I used to be in a "safety" orientated motorcycle club, but left as their mentality changed to hey 100 on a speedo is only 90, so if we sit on 110 it will be 100. and if the tolerance is 5%, we will sit on 115. Thats the (minimum) cruising speed, with bursts of licence losing speed to pass.

Thats not my scene. I enjoy the ride, looking at the scenery (Is that not the idea of varying the route?) not to race somewhere. The rides also began to suck as the problem with higher speeds to losing people on corners an intersections. The rule to wait goes out the window as there is no buffer in the speeds to catch up if you wait for the next person. So rides would often split in 2 or 3, and I gave up.

I almost never have people tailgating me, I tend to drive too fast for that. On the odd occasion it does happen I notice they aren't there after the first bend.

The way I look at it, whatever the maximum speed you are capable of driving around a 65km/h bend is, this is the maximum speed you should drive on a straight road.

Maximum speed, not comfortable for passengers etc, 110km/h. 90km/h when my wife is with me.

110 round 65 bends are easy for some cars and impossible for others.

However if there was something behind the bend that you can't see until you're right behind it ...... !

Going around corners posted at 65km/h at 110km/h is silly and dangerous to other road users and would be considered dangerous driving. A car maybe able to do it in a controlled known environment like a test track, on the open road there is too many variables.

My rule for the "suggestions" is if it's not a 25 corner, you can easily double it. But mdooher is right, passengers certainly don't like it, haha.

+1 ... people thinking they can do 130 on a marked 65 bend ... so 170 on the 85 ones?
