What difference does 30 minutes actually make on such a long drive? Given that you should have stopped for a break at least 3 or 4 times over 8 hours, an additional 30 minutes is neither here nor there really. I find that if you plan on the assumption 80km will be your speed rather than 100, you usually get there about when you thought you would.
I dont think I have ever stopped for a break on a journey around NZ that wasnt enforced by having to get out of the car because of a ferry.
Hell, I have done auckland to wellington, pick up a thing bought off trademe and back again with only one stop for a pee and a fill up somewhere near rotovegas each way.
