Heading to work today and it finally happened, my 2015 Leaf has lost a bar (now 11 bar) - oh noes!

Oh well, still got to work and then home with around the same battery percentage left as yesterday, so I guess that it isn't a big deal.

Still, will be saving up for the next few years so I'll have the necessary money for when I do get to the point of needing to change cars.  I don't know what the next car will be, possibly a 2021 car that is 2-years-old if I end up buying in 2023.  It could be a newer Leaf, but I'm not opposed to changing brands.

My late 2015 30kWh Leaf lost* its first bar a couple of months ago. I have ~72,000km on it.

*After getting two bars back with the battery firmware patch last year.

One of the interesting "wrinkles"  in the government's proposed feebate scheme (which is basically only mentioned in passing) is that the credit for "new vehicles" actually includes vehicles up to 3 years old....

"For the purposes of the Clean Car Discount, a new vehicle would also include vehicles up to three years old sold for the first time in New Zealand."

I can see NZ second hand dealers looking to obtain EVs 6-12 months old from the UK and Japan - Which have therefore been subject to the incentives in those countries,  and then also clip the NZ EV incentive ticket resulting in some significant savings off RRP

They may even directly buy them new overseas themselves , register them for the required length of time and then export them to NZ...

Although I suspect the actual marque dealers will submit against it...  but it might slip through

The policy as it stands, is very open to gaming. That's a consequence of such a simplistic policy. It'll be interesting to see what changes are made based on feedback.

Nz dealers are already buying uk and Japanese leafs and Zoes.

Look at those new model leafs with less than 1000k on clock.

Might encourage more of them to be imported if they cost 8k less than the current 50k...

A uk 40kw gen 2 leaf for mid 40k is something I would be interested in.

Can someone familiar with Leaf Spy please tell me if you can use it to check the specs of car when connected? Wanting to know if you can check what on-board charger is installed, how many airbags etc. Stuff only some dealers seem to know about the cars they sell.

So I had an intermittent yellow master warning light and an orange warning light LHS of center on the drive in today. I couldn't see anything like it in online lists of dash lights nor the manual I have. I tried some searches by describing the icon and it looks like it has something to do with Automatic Emergency Braking system. As far as I can tell this might be working from what appears to be a forward-staring optical system that the rear mirror hangs off.

So far the only discussions I can find on it relate to the 2018 Leaf but mine is 2016.

There are no specs to speak of in LEAFSpy, it's all about current readings of metrics.

Look on the side of the charger itself to see a metallic sticker showing 3.6kW or 6.6kW.

For each airbag there are labels sewn into the seats or stamped impressions in the dashboard etc.  Mine has 8 of these labels.  Saying the car has 6, 8, or 10 airbags is all the same thing in my experience (front, 'rear', and side).

Yes, that happens during sunstrike conditions. If the sun is blinding you, then it's also blinding the emergency braking system camera.

Pretty much yip...

The 3 trim levels for US Leafs are S, SF and SL, (40Kwh battery)

and since the Leaf "+"  was announced  you can now have each with a 60kwh battery  and they are called S+, SF+ and SL+

Is the Leaf slow?

I know I could answer this question with a test drive, but if I purchase a Leaf it has to be a facelift model ... and I am not quite there yet in terms of spending money without a loan, and I refuse to get a loan.

It ain't slow! Having said that make sure you're in power mode otherwise acceleration is slightly restricted to save power.

Compared to what? a Snail, an E-scooter, a Ferrari? over what distance 10 yards, 100 yards,  1/4 mile...

Sense of speed is a pretty personal thing, you will need to test drive one,

Popping down and test driving a car does not commit you to buying one, so wait until you local Nissan dealer has them in stock and go for it....
