Someone at Apple should teach Tesla how to do presentations and online video streaming. The stream is not on the Tesla site, and the presentation is cringeworthy.

I looked out of my window an hour after The Future arrived. Doesn't seem much different.

It appeared on the Tesla sight about 2 mins before the start.

BlinkyBill: I looked out of my window an hour after The Future arrived. Doesn't seem much different.

The future is like that....one moment at a time and then by the time we notice it's been there for a while......

Like climate change, in a way. We've already kicked off a process that will have major consequences in the decades ahead even if we didn't produce one more kg of CO2 from this moment forward.

The process of change can be locked in.....but you don't see it until it smacks you in the face.

I've made it my business to look forward.

I started campaigning for MMP in 1988.

I got out of mainframe computing two years before the roof fell in.

I bought my first smart phone - and Android (v1.5) in 2008.

I saw the GFC coming from 2003....and nailed it down to 2008 in late 2007. How the experts missed it is just the usual continuation bias.

You'll think I'm skiting.....and it probably looks like that. It isn't. I've learned to trust my instincts on change....and this is a 'bright line' for a big one. You could argue Nissan kicked it off with the LEAF in 2010. But then they dropped the ball. It was a compliance car and not intended to compete with ICE cars. Tesla is different. They have no ICE infrastructure to protect. They MUST build and sell awesome electric cars.....and it's happening.

More changes? Automation creeping into the careers tree and leaving less and less room for more and more people. That a HUGE one. It's already happening.....a little every day.

The future is often now......we just don't see it until later.

Hi @Blinkybill it would be great if you added something constructive to the thread. Are you against the Tesla?

I haven't been that interested in the Tesla until I saw this Youtube video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ARzujfRiQ3c

I also watched the Model 3 unveil. There are some pretty interesting stats in that video.

Elon Musk is doing some pretty exciting stuff with the South Australia battery, Tesla and SpaceX. I certainly prefer his outlook on life to Donald Trumps.

On the battery side I'm still not convinced Lithium Ion is going to save the world...

Cheers, Matt.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

Watch more video if him. He's not a fluid speaker. He may be very clever......but his public speaking is, at best, awkward and often amateurish. Then I say to myself: "Oh well.......so what."  :-)

I'm hoping this provokes a leap forward in battery tech. Toyota's solid state battery looks like it could be very good.....in a few years. We'll have to wait and see.....but if it really can store 3 times as much energy in the same physical space, degrade very littleover time and be charged up in 5 minutes....then it will be the next battery standard. In 20 years everything will be running on it....or something better. If we don't kill ourselves first by voting for idiots like Trump....or local pollies who will pander to people like Trump.

Not against Tesla, I used to own one. But I like to poke fun at sacred cows.

Psilan:

I have to agree. The fanboy-ism that follows Tesla is akin to an iPhone launch.

To be fair, companies such as Apple are needed to progress these type of products. They may not invent the product and reinventing the wheel, but they copy existing products in such a way to bring out the good things, and remove the bad things. If it wasn't for Apple, we wouldn't have the smart phone like it is today, because everyone wants to copy them. I think Tesla is similar.

The days of Android vs iPhone fanboyism were fun, from both sides. In todays issues of climate change, progress, if you feel that about EV, thats a bit sad. Maybe we should petition for coal fired power generation as well?

NZ should have incentives like the USA does

...and Canada.

...and Japan.

...and Norway.

...and Germany.

...and France.

...and China.

...and Hungary (21% of purchase price)

...and Ireland (€5000 tax rebate)

...and South Korea (equiv: US$12,000)

...and etc......

Well I did see the Transport Minister at an EV dealer spouting how much they support it. Words are great, support is another thing. One day, the Green Party will grow wings and fly, as no one else seems bothered about this planet.
