The handover of the first 30 Tesla Model 3 production cars to paying customers is supposed to happen today at 15:45 NZ time.

The Tesla Model 3 is the "affordable" Tesla at US$35,000 before incentives. It's the electric car with a base 400km range for 'everyone' at a reasonable price.  People who reserved before April 1st, 2017 get the self-driving feature for free.

Elon Musk has said the Tesla Model 3 will sell in NZ for NZ$50,000 (before GST, I think). We should see them here in RHD version in 12 - 18 months.

But the future starts today.

Unfortunately I have an appointment to watch paint dry. Sad to be missing something equally as exciting.

Your mean-spirited post is duly noted and you are excused.

I have to agree. The fanboy-ism that follows Tesla is akin to an iPhone launch.

Here's your pass. You can go. :-)

Some people see history happening....other people see wet paint.

You can't see what you can't see. True enough.

What's historical about this?

Sorry it wasn't clear from the OP.

It's a watershed of sorts. Beginning of the era of volume, mass-produced, long range  EVs for everyone.....beginning of the end for petrol cars. The tipping point starts now.

I understood that had already begun. Hence why I think it's fanboy-ism.

I guess it's not up for discussion.

Enjoy your afternoon then.

Although I am not yet ready for an EV, I'm glad you are so enthusiastic about them. It is good to feel passionate about things. And you are right about history being made. One day people looking back will see that. And it will be thanks to enthusiastic people like you.
