Re: The X/G models - it seems to be this one dude operating over Whatsapp who has flashed both systems onto his Leaf;

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rawi5OY4-AQ

Seems to have it working on the older Leafs too?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fQG40zojqQ

I'll just be using this as a commuter car and possibly for my partner to use as well - I have a beater manual that I can't bear to part with so this will likely only do 50km a day with the odd-roadtrip for novelty's sake (I'm guessing that will wear off quickly).

That is really impressive if it is indeed as a clean install as in the first video. if I had a 30kwh model I’d certainly be keen. I wonder if anyone is offering/will offer this conversion in NZ?

YouTube’s auto translation of the second video’s audio into Russian then into English does leave a bit to be desired, so I’m far from sure which earlier/24kwh models it’s feasible for, nor the specific issues they faced! Would @RUKI be able to share his knowledge and thoughts?

Noticed this:

Head unit transplant from a 30kw X/G maybe?

Hi, I am rarely visiting GZ these days, sorry that I have missed few questions and have not responded on time. Usually it is better to call my mobile if it is urgent. After 10 a.m. and up till late.

As for the Head Unit Transplant from 30kWh into 24kWh:

- easy enough as it is plug and play (have done few and have 30kWh units for sale if anyone interested), with 3 things to remember:

1) QY8205 is Non-Bose and QY8255 is Bose. Bose has extra Camera button and does not have built-in amplifier. Hence when you swap - make sure you swap with the right one.

2) GPS Antenna plug is different, so when I sell/install my head units - they come with GPS Antenna and correct plug. Install is simple as it is magnetic and stick under the dash near head unit - reception is good.

3) FM Antenna Plug is different, so when I sell/install my head units - they come with correct plug. No soldering required - quick change of plug using small flat screwdriver.

P.S. Have European Bose QY82xx Head unit for sale and Japanese Converted to English QY8205 Non-Bose for sale.

Hi,

I've searched (for weeks) and have not found an answer anywhere. I can't see any similar posts here but apologise if this has been answered.

I have a 2018 ZE1 with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Since I've owned the car, I've had lots of problems with the stereo rebooting / freezing when using Android Auto / CarPlay.

With Android Auto the stereo rebooted (back to Nissan Logo) every 15 - 30 minutes or so). I took it back to EV's Enhanced and they wiped, added latest firmware and tried with or without Japanese conversion over the top. The behaviour persisted. I gave up and bought an iPhone with CarPlay. CarPlay is worse. It freezes pretty much every time I get to 55kmph. I took it back to EV's enhanced who swapped the radio out for a new one, latest firmware etc. same result. I removed CarPlay devices from the phone multiple times. I've changed cables and bought a $35 0.5m cable from the apple store to try and fix it. I've wiped the phone and added no additional apps in case it was an introduced app that caused issues. Sadly same result. I've bought a CarLinkit 2.0 device to see if I could get wireless CarPlay going and get the same result with this device.

About town (going slower than 50kmph) the unit behaves but can be a little bit laggy. As soon as it gets above 55kmph the head unit (both this one and the old one that was replaced) maps freeze, the car screen freezes. Audio still streams ok, maps gives audio directions if on, but the screen will not update and will not respond to touches until it sorts itself out maybe 2 - 5 minutes later.

Does anyone else have a 2018+ Nissan Leaf they use CarPlay on and does it behave this way on the open road? Any ideas what might be causing this?

HELP!!!

If the issue manifests at a consistent speed, I'd suggest you take the car to an auto electrician and get the power cable to the head unit checked - I'm wondering if there's some current fluctuation that's causing the issue?

I'd agree with you, but suspect this is not the case as the old head unit does the same thing in a different car.....

We have that model Leaf. Sorry to say that CarPlay works flawlessly, at any speed.

Our only issue is that built-in mic has stopped working.

Thanks. Have sent PM.

My MIC stopped working as well and was an easy fix from EV's enhanced....

How far can Christchurch Leaf 30kWh drivers go on a day out on a single charge?  Thinking about a Leaf, but unsure how far out of Chch we could venture at the weekend without topping up. Thanks.

That's a bit of a piece of string question. I mean, I have a late-2015 30kWh model and depending on terrain about 100km might be OK, but with lots of hills, less. But then again mine's got 126,000km on it and it's down to 70% SOH.

Thats a fair point. Just discovered an app called PowerTrip, so another way of asking is does 11.8kWh from Cathedral Square to Oxford Forest (since was out there yesterday) seem about right?  Seems that might be a little low.

I'm a JAFA myself so I couldn't really say - but do remember you've got to get back as well so 11.8kWh one way might be cutting it a bit fine, depending on battery health.

Don't forget about Plugshare. Good for planning trips and shows where the chargers are.

To be honest, Leaf's are best for 2 car families. Make the Leaf the city car and the ICE the holiday car. Don't get me wrong, it is fun to take the Leaf on a long drive, but you need to factor recharging into the adventure. You will find you're biased toward taking the Leaf as much as possible anyway as it is cheaper and nicer to drive, but sometimes time constraints make the ICE more practical.

This is really good for planning trips. You can add in how degraded your battery is if needed.

Agreed. Most 30kWh Leaf's on sale are around 80-85% SOH, so I doubt would make.  Maybe just make it there and back in a newish 40kWh, but they would be outside the budget.
