I'm liking this combo!

I like the look of this too. I’m picking it will only come to NZ in the top trim level and will be about $60K. Ford are due to release their Escape PHEV here at a similar time (late next year). I guess the Outlander will finally have some competition.

If in 2021 you can get an 8K "feebate" off it , that would knock it back to 52K, which should sell well ( assuming they can source volume)

Yeah, sorry my mistake, its only $6,800 for the outlander pHEV , ( so assume the same for the RAV ), still not to be sniffed at....

"With the difference in electricity/diesel cost, less than half the maintenance and no Road User Charges (itself a $34,378 cost for the diesel truck), the capital cost of the EV truck will be recovered in 0.4 years.
Even without the Contestable Fund grant, Alsco says the extra cost of the EV truck would be recovered in 1.61 years. Looking ahead to a time when the RUC might be reinstituted for EVs, operational savings would take 7.7 years to even out - much longer but still viable in terms of the life of a heavy vehicle."

The current law states the Heavy EVs are RUC exempt until the end of 2025, so I think they will get over the payback period OK,

The bigger question is, why (If the economics are so good) did it require funding from the EECA fund to make it work....

Or is it simply the case of a multinational clipping the corporate welfare ticket...

...Because the contestible fund is there precisely for that reason? Are we really going to complain if a company takes advantage of it for it's intended purpose?

Another day in traffic this morning catching more than a few whiffs of diesel smoke when I had my window down. I do hope to see more and more heavy vehicles switching to electric too.

In California, the Model 3 has outsold the Honda Accord for 2019 and isn't far from beating out the Toyota Camry. The Model 3 is around $15k more than the Accord in the US although there is around $10k of tax incentives to be had.

Has a range of only 200km. Seems to me that with a large truck it should be easy to put a large battery at the front of the trailer for 1,000km range. If you put that battery on a palette, it would be easy to swap out a depleted one for a fully charged one.

Joe Scott is usually a very good presenter, but this video is well below his usual production value.

So I'd recommend skipping to 5:30, to get past his rambling.

He does make some good observations about the Tesla truck.

IMO that's unfair, the video is on his TMI ("too much information"), secondary channel. His warnings in the channel trailer include "unedited" and "very low production value".
