Here's an interesting development. BP have installed an EV fast charger at their new service centre at Taupiri. It's located at the top of the northbound Taupiri exit roundabout when coming from Hamilton. There's a Mcdonalds there, too.

This charger has both ChaDeMo and CCS 2 tethered connectors at 50kw as well as a 22kw Type2 AC socket. It was free to use when I was there on Sunday :-)

The new update to "A Better Routeplanner" software - both the web based and the app is excellent. The interface presents all the data very logically and makes planing easier. The info is the same just that it is now presented in a way the makes it easier to use.

In contrary news, the free Dunedin rapid charger has been removed.

This is good news as it was in a crap location and Chargenet have subsequently installed 2 (soon to be 3) rapid chargers in better locations.

The 43kw AC tethered connector is broken on Unison's charger in the Dickens St car park in downtown Napier. It is being removed entirely as the small amount of usage doesn't justify the thousands of dollars required to fix it. They also won't be installing a 22kw Type 2 AC socket for the same reason. So this charger won't be able to AC charge anything.

The nearby Warehouse has a 22kw AC charger with two Type 2 sockets. BYO cable.

Although it looks a bit like the kiddies table.... You get stuck on the far corner of the site with get no shelter and a good walk from the coffee shop/store etc... that's great when its fine, but in a thundery wet day, its gotta be a little annoying...

We got takeaway burgers, fish and chips from there to eat at the camp site. 10/10 for sure!

Drive through there regularly on the way to/from Stratford. It's not quite the right time for a stop for us but always wondered what it was like. Perhaps we should stop sometime on the way down, there's some great spots just south of there to stop and view the scenery and eat takeaways. I always enjoy the drive along the coast between Awakino and Tongaporutu.

Sorry for the thread drift.

Hi. I have just joined the ranks of EV ownership. I have an E Golf with Type 2 CCS socket.

I Live In Papamoa. Can anyone advise charger locations for Both AC & DC charging within the area please ?

I am aware of the Chargenet fast DC charger within the Bayfair parking building but am interested in what others that are available & whether these require you to supply your own charging lead or if a charger lead is tethered ?

@clive100 just go to https://www.plugshare.com/ and filter by type 2 (AC) and type 2 CCS (DC).

EDIT: Or CCS(SAE) as Plugshare has it listed.

Thanks Yes I had already registered there. What info that site isn't clear on is if you need your own lead for the free AC chargers or are the leads tethered to the chargers ?

Hi Cilve,

Congrats on buying a new EV.Have driven the e- Golf on a couple of occasions and really liked the ride.As for charging around here ,its pretty average .As far as I know you need a lead for the one in downtown Tauranga on the Strand. Just be aware this place is often iced. The warehouse on Cameron Rd has a similar one.Have never used either of them. The lakes shopping centre has free AC with leads , they are ccs type one  unless they changed them recently. The Bayfair shopping centre has 2 free AC CCS type 2 with leads provided. New World has a fast charger available. Be aware the park is a bit cramped ,especially if they have their van parked in there. There may be others.

Sorry forgot to mention ,NW in the Mount is 50Kw DC.The Bayfair AC free chargers are on the end of the row and the one nearest the ramp is the easier one to park in.The cable is plenty long enough.
