Thanks. I will visit Bayfair & have a play. Cheers.

Sorry forgot to mention ,NW in the Mount is 50Kw DC.The Bayfair AC free chargers are on the end of the row and the one nearest the ramp is the easier one to park in.The cable is plenty long enough.

The ChargeNet charger at the New World at the Mount is 25kw DC, not 50.

Also, "CCS Type 1" is a DC charging standard used in the US and Canada. CCS = "Combined Charging Standard". Type 1 by itself is AC only. They are related in terms of plug config, but they aren't the same thing.

Similarly, "CCS Type 2" is also DC only, but based on the AC Type 2 plug standard NZ and AU have adopted from the EU.

It's a bit confusing at first. But it's just "rules" and we get our head around them eventually. :-)

Clive's e-Golf (great car!) won't be able to use the tethered Type 1 AC at Bayfair (the one nearest the entry door), but he will be able to use the Type 2 tethered charger in the other side of the pillar. Hell also be able to use the CCS Type 2 DC side of the ChargeNet DC charger. The e-Golf can change at up to 40kw.

Get a ChargeNet account, Clive and add a credit card and mobile number to it. Install their app on your phone. It's really useful . They also sell an RFID fob for $1. You just put it on your key ring and tap it on the charger after plugging in to activate it. Useful if a particular site has a poor mobile connection and can't reliable tell to the ChargeNet mothership. Like at Kaiwaka on the way to Whangarei.

There are many ways to activate the ChargeNet chargers.

1. Fob
2. Via the app.
3. Via the ChargeNet web site (after you've lived into your account, of course).
4.TXT (instructions are down the middle of the lower half of the charger)
5. Call ChargeNet and ask them to (if all else fails).

NZ had adopted the Type 2 AC standard. But you usually need to have your own cable. Hopefully, your e-Golf came with one. It should have.

Thanks for pointing all those mistakes out, I really no nothing when it comes to this type 1 and 2,except that type one is old now and thanks also taking the time to explain the differences, very informative indeed.Yes your right about New World, it is a 25kw not a 50kw, silly me.Do you think Chargenet will put a fast charger in Tauranga? Not everyone wants to go all the way to traffic mayhem in the Mount to charge coming off a trip from up North.Maybe one in Papamoa as well.Domain Road would be good , it's handy to the highway and they have nearly finished upgrading it. Not really an issue at the moment of course, because there is so few EV's .I think things will start to change in the next couple of years, with a lot more choice for EV minded motorists to replace their ICE vehicles.

I see maybe a dozen or so of Gen 1 Leaf's, a couple of the latest Leaf's not to mention a growing collection of Tesla's running around Papamoa. So yes a charging station or two is warranted in this area.  Where do I sign a petition haha.  I will note that there is already a Tesla station here. Are you listening PowerCo, Park N Save & Papamoa Plaza ?

Good if you do a lot of long trips and need to top up in hurry, as you travel through greater Tauranga to all points south. If you live here, maybe not so vital ,unless you are happy to fast charge your precious battery frequently! For me personally I prefer a slow charge at home, it costs less and with a bit of luck will be less detrimental to the battery health in the long term. But yes Power Co. please start putting in free slow chargers. Careful though, we wouldn't want to be called EV freeloaders, lol.

We EV owners are doing our bit to save the planet & at great personal expense.

So a bit of free power from Power Co as a government incentive is a small price to pay for our efforts. Anyway that's my story & I'm sticking to it.

Power Co is owned by a Canadian pension fund, I think.....

Been looking at the plugshare site and have notice a few gaps on the west coast of the south island sure there are some planned but there is still a decent gap between Murchison and Westport a little longer than and older LEAF could make a great spot for a charger Inangahua as there is a Power substation there so Power supply would not be an issue.

We all need to pay our way. But they had damn well better create an EV class on the schedule because a) your average EV doesn't create anywhere near as much road damage as a 3.5 ton diesel truck, and b) it ought to be priced in such a way as to recognise the carbon costs that ICE vehicles should be incurring by comparison.

However, to the best of my knowledge the government has not talked about that one way or the other.

re a)

Unfortunately the MoT doesn't (well this was their line on 2012) agree with you

Why should a small passenger car pay the same road user charges as a larger SUV?

Variation in vehicle weight below 3.5 tonnes does not have a significant influence on the wear and tear vehicles cause to the roading network, ie a 3 tonne SUV does not cause noticeably more damage to the road than a 2 tonne car.

Any significant differentiation of charges within this weight limit would be inconsistent with the Act, which requires charges to be set in proportion to the costs vehicles generate.

https://www.transport.govt.nz/land/road-user-charges-ruc-and-petrol-excise-duty-ped/roaduserchargeslegislationchanges/newvehicletypesandweightbandsqandas/

So based on that I would not expect any change, but lets see what happens when the latest step in the feebate scheme happens after the submission are analysed..

It was a tongue in cheek comment which was taking a small dig at those that wanted something for nothing. I know it's not true of most EV drivers BUT some do seem to give the impression they are saving the world and need to be venerated for that.
