Electric Vehicles

Honest Government Ad

The Australien Government has made an ad about its Electric Vehicle policy, and it's surprisingly honest and informative.

Gizmodo AU: Remember When Gunmaker Kalashnikov And Putin Tried To Take On Elon Musk And Tesla?

It’s the year 2018. COVID-19 isn’t a thing. The American-made Tesla Model 3 is leading the global electric vehicle sales market. The world seems relatively normal.

Casting a beady eye over the progress that its biggest economic rival has made in terms of EVs and EV tech, Russian president and former KGB man Vladimir Vladimirmovich Putin, also decided he fancies a slice of the global EV market to show that Russia — despite being economically crippled by Western sanctions — could go toe-to-to with the US on the global EV market.

...The company selected to make the Russian Tesla was internationally recognised gunmaker Kalashnikov. Yes, that’s right — the very same Kalashnikov behind the iconic AK-47 assault rifle that gave the Wehrmacht a kicking at Stalingrad, and became a favourite amongst insurgents and firearms enthusiasts around the world thanks to its relative simplicity....

Looking at the Hyundai Kona Electric Elite Series II, as possibly having a front camera and fitting my small vehicle requirements.
EV model lists 'thermal cooling' - is this any good?

Yes, this will likely mean the pack will never need to be replaced over the life of the car.

They guarantee for 8 years by the looks of it.

I was looking for works like Active cooling, rather than just thermal which kinda reads like passive cooling.

Maybe just lost in translation definition situation.

Thermal cooling may instead mean it actually has some cooling mechanism.
I like they way they've routed some battery cooling to the cabin, for use in the heater if required.

The original Kona claimed to (did?)  have liquid cooling, can't see why it would have been dropped for the series II

I believe active cooling and thermal cooling are the same thing

“Thermal Cooling” just sounds like advertising speak. ‘Cooling’ is a ‘Thermal’ activity.

Sorry if this is a dumb question but we now often hear that battery packs will last the life of the vehicle. What is the life of a EV?
