Haven't looked at either of those, but I remember she has commented negatively about BYD before.
Drove a Peugeot 208eGT premium - "Too small". I really liked it though.
Peugeot 2008 e GT Premium - She was about to buy this before I asked her to try a Y.

If you do want a 100% EV, have you considered the new MG4? Should be around $48k after govt subsidy.

She does want EV only. I'll get her to try a BYD anyway.
I'll check out MG. She wants to stay around 70k max.

It's really the best time yet to be looking for an EV (well, other than the reduced rebate!), given the wide range of models currently available and on the way. Especially the case in circs like this, where the car doesn't need to be particularly large or have substantial storage space.
All the usual suspects have been mentioned above; if she's not in a hurry, I agree about waiting to try out the MG4, which is pretty well reviewed (and a decent-looking car to boot); If the SUV-lite thing isn't a necessity, then selecting this over the ZS makes sense given it's on an EV platform etc.
Similarly, I'd be tempted to wait for the Atto 2 (I see there's a trial model in Akld, so we can't be too far off, hopefully). I understand why the Atto 3 may not float her boat (my wife wouldn't countenance it based on looks, despite thinking it drove fine), but the Atto 2's interior is 'less divisive'.
And, given this is a Y thread, I'll cover that off: I'd concur with the others - while there's no harm having a look, I don't think this is the car for her given your description. I love tech and still find the reliance on the touch screen for nearly everything occasionally frustrating.
Appreciate the info.
I'm not sure she'll like the Atto 2. She has terrible taste. We started with the Yaris originally! She called the 208eGT Premium a grandma's car, while still thinking the Yaris looked good.
MG4 looks cool. She was also about to buy the Toyota CHR and that looks somewhat similar. She thought the CHR was beautiful...
Pray for me.

Well maybe she wants a model Y. Then get her a Model Y :D
One thing to check is whether she's able to deal with the charging plugs, both at home and at a fast charger (if she'll use them). This is very dependent on how physically able she is of course - some people are spring chickens at 75, others are absolutely ancient. Grip and wrist strength is often one of the first things to deteriorate, unfortunately.
She's pretty good. Shouldn't have any issues with those things. :) I'll see if I can test that too.
I doubt she'll charge outside of the home anyway. They have a big suv thing for long trips.

I repeat my suggestion of the UX300e.
The UX shares the same GA-C platform as the CH-R. Basically the Lexus version of the CH-R with less weird styling. Price is in the same ballpark as a model Y, once you add a non white colour & the domestic socket power cord to the model Y (both included with the lexus.

Or the short range, second car specialists:

A sharp eyed user over at choice cheapies, has noticed that Tesla had quite sharp pricing on its "inventory" model Y's.
$70,847 drive away before rebate ($8,650 until July 1).
I put inventory in quotes, as it sound like the car's aren't actually in stock, rather they are cars that are in transit (or have been built and allocated to NZ without a buyer yet). Delivery date is between 25th of may till 15th of june, so should hopefully get the current rebate.

Touch up paint? Claiming insurance to fix coupled of those nicks with your excess and higher premium next year is not worth it IMO for that. I would buy some touch up paint and fix it myself. If you are really worried about future paint protection then invest in PPF to cover the bonnet area.

does PPF protect forceful sharp gravel impacts?
Supercheap do exact match touch up paints for about $25. Takes them about 10 mins to make it up for you.
