Elon is that fantastic handyman, who can fix anything, but always tries seducing your mother when you leave the room.

VW is that bad faith insurance company that expects a government bailout when they lose money.

Looks like we are getting closer if to it being available here if a right hand drive model Y shows up in Hong Kong for sale.

A Model Y under $80,000 seems possible. That's good news.

Considering it is really just the higher / suv version of the model 3, it shouldn't really be much more.

Interesting and hopeful given what was pointed out on another thread, ie ie a current lack of a standard range Y model. See https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=162&topicid=288206&page_no=6#2729656

Scott3:

afe66: Why is tesla "controversial" in that article ?

A quick Google for volkswagen news at same website - the latest golf update from couple months ago - doesn't mention the billions of dollars in fines VW paid....

I think calling Tesla controversial is a fair call. Here is an article from 2019, and the controversial things continue to flow.

https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-problems-2019-autopilot-elon-musk-tweets-2019-6?r=AU&IR=T

A lot of the controversial stuff with Tesla is a symptom of pushing boundaries, I would imagine most Tesla Buyers and shareholders would be aware of this, but still back the company.

VW isn't a great comparison, the diesel-gate thing was widly condemned and not controversial in my eyes.

I respectfully disagree.

Vw behaviour which it paid billions of dollars in fines for deliberate fraud is significant enough to mention if your going to reference a tesla article from 2 years ago.

AutoWeek UK: Tesla plots £20k, 250-mile EV hatch to rival VW ID 3

Next-generation battery tech will give Tesla’s entry-level hatchback an eye-catching range for its price

"Tesla is making a renewed push to cement itself as the world’s leading electric vehicle brand in the face of fierce competition from established manufacturers, particularly in Europe, after achieving the most successful sales quarter in its 13-year history.

Crucial to the US firm’s continued success will be the introduction in the coming years of the long-mooted small, affordable electric hatchback to rival front-runners in that segment, such as the Volkswagen ID 3, Nissan Leaf and Kia e-Niro.

Set to go on sale in 2023, the new Tesla hatchback will mark the firm’s landmark shift away from the premium EV sector into more accessible territory, building on the mammoth success of its Model 3 compact saloon in Europe, where it ranks consistently among the best-selling electric cars. A starting price in the US of around NZD $36,000 has been suggested... but Tesla’s models typically cost slightly more outside of its homeland, so an on-sale price of around NZD $40,000 is more likely. This would make it the brand’s cheapest model by a large margin, with even the most affordable variant of the Model 3 priced from NZD $81,000"

"Fraud" might be too strong, but amoral definitely, willfully damage people's health to make a buck. Reminds me of Coca Cola and Fanta

All I can say it wasn't filmed In Oz and was probably a set up. Looks to me the person in the car behind was ready to record the action.

Boy do I hate videos that are either filmed in portrait mode or are displayed like that one in portrait mode. Most screens allow for landscape use which is the best way to view video.

The Tesla has Nevada plates on it... It's highly likely a set up... the OZ voice over has been added for down under consumption...

Govt gives EVs owners another 2 1/2 years of RUC exemption, but signals it might be the last one...

"Electric vehicles are exempt from paying road user charges that normally apply to vehicles that don’t pay for petrol at the pump. This exemption has been extended until 31 March 2024"
BUT
"we will need to look closely at any further extensions to the exemption for light electric vehicles,” Michael Wood said."
