cokemaster: @kingdragonfly - the problem is that whilst the part count may go down, when things go wrong… you better have a big credit limit as the fault will typically lie with the battery or electric motors, both of which are 10’s of thousands to replace.
I know that there are parts in ICE cars which can cost similar amounts but their failure rates are very rare and typically covered under warranties (in the case of our Prius V).

Obraik: Most EV drivers are incentivised to charge after peak hours so nah, can't blame EVs for tonight's shortage. Rather, it's due to the whole country being cold at once, an event that isn't very common.
and they've killed the generation network.
Good incentive for ev owner to push for vehicle to grid over here, so those cars can be used for load balancing.....What's th epoint of having a honking great big battery on your drive if it can't power your house when there's no power

I'd shudder to think what vehicle warranties would look like if V2G became widespread.
UK studies showed v2g improved battery health with leafs in the trial there

Not that further increasing the rate of charge/discharge cycles seems prima facie an implausible way of improving battery health, but ... how?

I did not blame them at all. I merely pointed out that if they do not ensure adequate supply 365 days a year and they have 5 million EVs being charged that they do not currently have....
We have no incentive at all as to when we charge ours. The price is the same 24/7.

Have you tried contacting your provider and telling them you have an EV? Most of them will give you an off-peak discount because of that. I've been getting 20% off off-peak charges for years now. Mercury helpfully emailed me a week after getting the Leaf to tell me that unusual power usage had been detected, all between 7pm and 6am. I asked them not to notify me about that because it was expected owing to me having an EV. So they gave me the discount. And the emails. :-)

Geektastic:Check out Ecotricity assuming they supply your area. Their off peak rates (midnight - 7:00am and all weekend) is about a third discounted from peak (18c vs. 28c), and they have a feed in tariff (for PV export) of 10.5c which is much better than most others.

Why is Toyota fighting EV's and paying to stop them selling?

Senecio: I think it’s as simple as Toyota are building cars for today, rather than tomorrow. Many people aren’t ready to move to a full BEV yet and hybrids meet the needs of many people now.
I’m sure Toyota will start making full BEV cars, when the time is right. But for now, they’re making cars for the masses rather than the early adopters.

But Toyota does one better than a bev, they have self charging - revolutionary. Imagine if they next came out with a car that didn’t use battery, but used some stored energy…maybe in a liquid. They’re so ahead of the curve they should be aspired to. Tesla needs to get on that band wagon…imagine how cold they’d be if the cars were not stuck to a wire to charge and could charge itself.
Who even needs liquid when you can just put a propeller on the roof and use the airflow to charge the car?
