I have a 2014 nisan leaf with range just over 100km and I have driven several times to chch from dunedin which involves 4 rapid charges and by battery temp was still in the green.

Is your experience of driving your leaf different ?

Given that NZ is subtropical and the south temperate climate, and rarely gets above 30, the lack of active cooling shouldn't make much difference. That is, as long as its not a second-hand Japanese car.

Each to their own, but in 2021 I wouldn't buy a brand new EV that doesn't have proper thermal management of its battery.

I assume thats a 24 or 30, this is a problem with the 40 or 62 packs, like what is currently on sale

On my 2015 Leaf I've only had the temperature going high once, fast charging in very hot summer weather. In cooler weather the temperature might rise a little when fast charging, but generally it will still stay within the safe range. The cars with bigger batteries should have it easier with longer stints in between the fast charges, due to having more range. On a 24kWh Leaf a 50kW fast charge is over 2C, in a 62kWh Leaf the same 50kW charge is under 1C - there should therefore be less heating due to it effectively being a slower charge rate.

Yes, I agree with the comparison to the M3. I would just rate the BMW 4th in the Euros quoted.

I wish there were more sedan EVs available rather than the obsession with SUV/Crossovers. Having said that, there is still no indication of pricing or availability of the Model Y in NZ is there?

But for anything other than an MGZS or Leaf, input from the NZ Lotteries Commission is required.

Its not fair comparing the iX3 against the model 3 quite a different vehicle I guess.

I just dont know why I would buy it over the others (I guess unless a big bmw fan).

The iPace is the fastest, probably bets off road, most car like
The EQS is luxowafting, its such a refined vehicle
The Etron is kinda in the middle, fast but not sporty, spacious and luxurious. Probably the closest match to the BMW

The Model Y will be cheaper than them all and faster, but with teslas Spartan interior and focus on high tech spaceship rather than overbearing fussiness some of the euro cars have.

Not yet but just add 10% onto the cost of the model 3 version you are thinking about and it should be around there.

If not, then the AWD Model Y is probably going to be too expensive to get the rebate here.
