Wasn't that the one with the guy who had already been arrested earlier that day for sitting in the back seat while his Tesla was on autopilot?

This is the one where a Model S slammed into a tree and caught fire. I don't think we yet know whether the people got into the back seat or if they were flung into the back seat because they didn't have their seat belts on. Either way, poor choices by the occupants.

ah that one, no seatbelts, no autopilot, just a 'watch this' moment in a 25 limit suburban street :/

Some copy...paste journalism both from April

Driven:AA Buyer's Guide: Manufacturers of the future

...BYD (it stands for Build Your Dreams) is another Chinese manufacturer, and we’ve spotted a few imported examples of its cars on our roads already. The BYD Han’s long-range model (pictured above in red) has a remarkable single-charge range of 605km and starts at approximately US$32,800.

The 4WD high-performance version possesses acceleration of 0-100km/h in just 3.9 seconds, making it China’s fastest production EV.

The BYD Han is estimated to cost $49,995 in NZ and it’s been announced that it will be available for direct online sale in October 2021 from BYD Australia
...

Same info from AA

The BYD we'll be looking for is the e6 - a minivan (up to 7 seats) selling in Oz for $40k, and the AE1/Dolphin at $35k

Assume the Han will come too but not heard much about it recently

I admit, despite being an AA member, I had never heard of BYD until it was mentioned in this thread. Possibly because I had given up on watching Fully Charged, mainly due to the car reviewers not actually being car people (squidgey buttons, etc).

The BYD Han looks quite stylish, and once it is de-blinged by having some of the chrome blacked out and the words “Build Your Dreams” removed from the boot, will look perfectly at home on NZ roads (personal opinion). So after it has an acceptable ANCAP rating I think it will do well here, provided it has service backup.

Edit: If it can be had here for $50k for the base model, there is hope the model as reviewed will be under the magic $80k.

I really cant get on with Fully Charged's new car reviewer either, I actually prefer Bobbys generally uninformed puppy dog enthusiasm to jack.

The Genesis looks like an EV6 that was hit with the ugly stick.

JerryRigEverything's not mentioning cost, but I'd guess he passed NZD $100,000.

I suspect when done he's probably near the projected cost of a new Hummer NZD $160,000, with less range.

Still the old military Hummer's a good choice for the conversion. Lots of space for batteries; 4x4 and torque can be well used in hill climbs

Well yeah he isnt talking about cost, the old military hummer is a different thing to the new one tho.

And the new one is made by GM so will likely catch fire.
