What troubles are you having? Mine is mostly working but every now and then the car will complain it's too slow. It seems that it might be due to the snapshotting feature teslausb does that could be causing a slow down. I was going to try turning that off and see what difference it makes.

Yeah still working but get the slow usb warning pretty regularly so wouldn't say it is bullet proof.

Hey mate, how were the super chargers? How much time did you spend on them and did this add significant time to your journey compared to a standard petrol car journey?

My Model 3 has sufficient range that I don't need to charge very often. But the Superchargers were charging my car at 129kw. Adding 40kWh took about 20 minutes.

If I were to drive from Auckland to Wellington, I'd just need a 20-25 minute stop in Taupo on the supercharger. So basically, just like any other car as far as breaks are concerned. Except way better. :-)

@obraik and @sumnerboy yeah slow usb warning very often, typically leads to only the first sentry event being saved e.g. out of 6 events for the day while parked.

I've given up for now until the next release from marcone.

I'm considering buying a model 3 early next year (probably a performance model) and was wondering how many model 3 owners in Christchurch would be willing to give me some information on the actual real ownership experience.

I don't really want to have to travel to Auckland to have a good look at one and I've only seen one (white) here.

I've read all kinds of comments around ride being a little rough on the 20"s, and some recent comments around panel fit and paint finish etc so I'm looking for info on what they're actually like to own and how they handle Christchurch's earthquaked roads, how much of a problem getting insurance was (lets say I'm "mature"), and any issues that have been had along with the servicing experience (I see they're now in Avenger Cres so that's good).

If you don't get answers here, Try NZ EV Owners or Tesla Model 3 NZ Owners groups on Facebook. You can also PM me and I can ask in the Model 3 Owners group for you. You may not be able to join it if you haven't at least ordered a Model 3.

If you do decide to order, make sure you start the order through a referral code link (like mine, below). That way you and I would both get 1500km free use at Superchargers. But the order has to start with a referral link. You can't add the referral later.

There's also the Christchurch EV group on Facebook. Looks like there was a red M3P at the meet-up in November 2019, which I missed attending.

I don't have 20" wheels so can't comment on that, but I am in Christchurch so please feel free to PM me about my experience.

I went for the 18" wheels because I wanted less vulnerability to potholes and debris on the roads.....and more life from the tyres. The Aero wheel covers also add a bit of range. I don't drive fast and I'm not very spotty about it, so I don't need the extra traction at the margin you'd get with the 20" tyres. I got the bigger battery for the extra range. I have to say, I'm really happy. My Model 3 can easily do 400km on the highway without blinking and a decent balance left for comfort.

The larger battery also has more scope for fast supercharging. I've seen my car charging at 129kw at Taupo. Charging times are easily cut in half if you can fit in a supercharger on a journey. Not always suitable or convenient, but great when it is.

I've driven my Model 3 from Opotiki to Wellington and back on the same day.. with the return let being via Napier. It was a long day, sure, but not much time was spent charging.

The car is comfortable. The aircon is great and doesn't seem to affect range much. The sound system in the Performance version is great.

I love the glass roof. The feel inside the cabin is light and bright. But it darkens when the sun is strong so you don't get sunblasted.

I use the autopilot a fair bit. Mainly to take wee breaks on easy roads without too many sharp curves.
It stress ok and maintains speed fine. It's not very good about anticipating turns, so you have to manually adjust the speed at times if you don't want to go if the road. Overall, it's pretty good. :-)
The only mod I've made was to add Basenor mudflaps bought on Amazon. They seem to be fine after 7800km. There's a trick to fitting the front ones.

Too early to know for the Model 3 I guess but what is the resale value for Tesla's like in NZ? Do they hold their value better than an ICE car?

They seem to at the moment and I think a lot of that is because even as scrap their drive trains are quite valuable to those looking to do EV conversions. There was a wrecked Model X on trademe a few weeks back that went for $20k

In other words I believe you have to take a number of parts, including the motor, together. Not a problem if you're swapping the entire drive train, but can't just mix up drive train parts like a conventional vehicle.

It depends what you're doing with them. If you're using them as replacement parts in another Tesla then yes you'll have some problems. If you're putting it in an EV conversion then it's not really a big deal if you're mixing and matching the drive train components.
