RobDickinson:For now, its a two part story and you dont have to do both parts at the same time.
There is sun some of the time and it definitely does get windy down there - I'm sure the potential is there to go renewable and storage batteries are only going to get cheaper.

General Tesla question from a lowly Leaf owner - and I expect I already know what the answer is - do they do trade-ins?
I traded in a 20 year old car. Got $500 but didn't care. Was all online and easy. Certainly could have got more if I sold via trade me but it's such a pain. Turned up on collection day, dropped off old car and took new wheels.
I was offered $1400 for a 2007 BMW 525D by Tesla. Managed to sell it on TradeMe for $9k.

Interesting in Q3 tesla outsold BMW, Audi and Mercedes combined, all their cars/suvs etc.
1454 vs 1441.
They have 1 showroom vs what 30?
olivernz:
The Tesla delivery fee has nothing to do with the local delivery cost. I think it's the general cost for getting it to NZ or something but it's definitely not a loclal distance fee.
as for Model Y, I'd be surprised if it arrives before mid next year. AUS is just sucking up too many models and is prioritised.
Tesla told me this arvo that they expect Model Y in NZ early next year. He's not sure if that mean ordering or delivery.
I see Tesla has just raised their prices in the US of A. I wonder how long until we get hit?

We've had a couple of price cuts.
I dont think we'll see price rises unless shanghai gets very backed up with orders or our NZD goes to shit.

Are they trying to ape the Mustang Mach-E? FUGLY!!!!

Upcoming Marvel looks better:

Seems like they're changing over from Mazda styling to Hyundai

Looks like the standard-range Model Y may well be on the table for our family, provided it does come in under the $80k mark (and in any colour other than white!) - my partner's completely fine with the idea (which was a bit of a shock); my younger son wants it yesterday! If/when it does come to pass I'll look to use your referral code, RobDickinson, given you got me to re-look at my prejudices against/concerns with Teslas.
I take it the Lexus UX300e Limited would be too small for your needs? (just going by look in photo).
Not cutting edge EV but as a premium model
Not clear if can order yet ..

- Based on the lexus.co.nz site the $79,900 (incl ORC) model seems to include a lot of safety features (and lots of 'nice' stuff 😁)
- Claimed 400km range (actual ~300?)
- 4 yr unlimited kilometre warranty, service plan and roadside assistance package
- 10 yr / one million kilometre battery warranty (not more than 30% capacity degradation)
- Colours other than white at the base price?

There's plenty of head and leg room up front in the Lexus UX300e, but rear passenger space is poor. Not only do the narrow rear door openings make it tricky to get in and out, but anyone approaching six foot tall will find their knees pressed up against the seat backs and the footwells are very tight. That's with just two adults in the rear. Try fitting three adults in the back of a UX and it'll be a real struggle for the middle passenger especially, with a compromised middle rear seat that sits higher than the outer two, reducing the head room it can offer. The Ford Mustang Mach-E, Tesla Model 3, Volvo XC40 Recharge Pure Electric and Volkswagen ID.4 all serve their rear-seat passengers immeasurably better.
The boot is a useful square shape, has no awkward load lip at its entrance and has a convenient hidden cubby for the cable beneath the boot floor. However, all that's completely undermined by the small main luggage compartment. Granted, it’s not as diminutive as the boot in the standard hybrid Lexus UX (the electric UX300e's is 47 litres bigger) but this is still a vastly smaller boot than you get in most rivals. We only managed to get four carry-on cases beneath the UX300e’s flimsy tonneau cover, while many rivals manage seven or more.
Fully Charged with a first decent review of the BYD Dolphin

Smallish hatch, not exactly feature rich in some areas but has V2L and a good drivetrain/battery and tech, price will be really on point here $25-30k post rebate I would guess.
so i get to babysit a friend's leaf during school holidays.
he doesn't know much about it other than charge it and drive it, so i thought i'd ask here
Gen 2 24kwh
i plug the leafspy app and it says SOH 60.x%
when the battery is 10% leafspy says there'a 20% capacity remaining
* does that mean the car will still move when it gets to 0% since that means it will still have just over 10% actual capacity or is that a reserve that the car won't use. i have no way of finding that out without a friend with a flatbed tow truck
