Eh something being fundamentally finished from an engineer means its 90% done..

Which, to be fair, means it still has 90% of the development effort left. ;-)

Looks like new 3's ordered now will be April or later.

Must have been a very recent shift. When I ordered at the end of November they told me it was scheduled to arrive in NZ in late Feb with hand-over to me in early March.

Despite what I said about the Model Y in another thread, maybe I’ll wait to look at that if the M3 is going to be delayed by that much. Although price increases will probably cancel out the govt rebate for the M3 by then and the overseas version of the MY is unlikely to qualify (unless there is a change).

If we get the Standard Range version of the Model Y then it will qualify for the rebate.
The Model 3 has had two price drops since the rebate came into place but yeah, long delivery times could indicate future price rises. If you're definitely getting a Tesla whether it be a Model 3 or Y, you could order the Model 3 now to secure the price at is today (and benefit from any drop if it were to happen). If you change your mind for the Model Y you can transfer your order to that instead and you won't lose your non-refundable $400 deposit.

I asked this exact question of the rep in the Tesla showroom (don’t want to call them salespeople because they’re not really). His response was that it was a non-refundable order fee, so not a deposit (backed up by the fine print on the Tesla website). He said changing to the MY would forfeit the $400 and a new $400 order fee charged.
I certainly hope it is your interpretation, although in the big scheme of things an extra $400 shouldn’t deter you if you would rather have a Y over a 3.
However this discussion is probably more for the specific Model 3 thread.

It's possible they've changed their policies on that, or it depends on who you talk to. When I ordered my car, I originally ordered one from inventory but then changed to a non-listed inventory car and they allowed me to do that without paying another order fee. I don't see why it would be a big deal for them, since you're still buying a car from them 🤷🏻♂️

U.S. auto safety regulators have stepped up a series of investigations into engine fires that have plagued Hyundai and Kia vehicles for more than six years.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says a new engineering analysis investigation covers more than 3 million vehicles from the 2011 through 2016 model years. The agency has received 161 complaints of engine fires, some of which occurred in vehicles that had already been recalled.
Engine failures and fires have dogged the Korean automakers' vehicles since September 2015 when the company issued an engine failure recall. Since then it has issued at least eight more recalls for a host of engine problems, according to NHTSA documents posted on its website Monday.

Not sure what this has to do with this thread which is "EV (electric vehicle) general news"? As far as I can see there is no reference to EVs at all in the article.
