MikeB4:

Mazda’s build quality will be way better. They can at least get shut lines right.

Fair, although the Shanghai plant where the NZ Teslas come from is far better build quality than Fremont by all accounts.

RobDickinson:

So , fun fact, in 2022 so far Mazda have sold twice as many EVs as Tesla.

Is this worldwide, or just a particular market? And by “sold” do you mean ordered or delivered? (Bearing in mind 2022 is only 5 weeks old).
The reason I ask is if a manufacturer like Tesla, which has no forecourt presence, had no shipments arrive in January, and hence no deliveries (sales), then the local Mazda dealer could easily outsell them by selling one vehicle from their on-yard stock.

Mind you, I guess if a Model 3 is too big for someone, they could always opt for a (smaller range) MX-30 for the same price.

Edit: Corrected the Mazda model type.

I meant in NZ. Because we're in NZ.

Its an odd factoid as tesla sold 1 model 3 in January (I assume all they had left) and Mazda sold 2 mx-30s to some poor idiots

I am really keen on the idea of an MX-30 with rotary range extended but I'm not sure if I'd buy one because the legroom and access to the second row is terrible.

And, for the record, I wouldn't buy a Telsa but I would eat spaghetti on pizza.

So it’s actually registered in NZ.

The customers likely asked the dealer to wait until after 1 Jan to register their vehicle, effectively making it a ‘2022 model’. Even though Tesla doesn’t have Model Years as such.
Out of interest, do they have model numbers (beyond S3XY)? Some way of saying I have a 2021 SR+(NCA) vs a 2021 RWD(LFP) vs a 2021 Unicorn SR without going into that detail.

USA got their V2 chargers upped to 150kw, not NZ, some of ours seem to top out at 80kw sometimes too regardless.

Will try the v3 one day I guess..

All our V2 chargers are 125kW. Timaru had an issue for a while where it was limited to 80kW but that was fixed around a year ago.

Are they bringing in the VW ID3 yet?  I saw one on the road today, but maybe that was a private import.

VW hasn't seen New Zealand as a priority so we aren't due any of the ID range until next year, starting with the ID4. Any you see are imports

i'm not sure about that (not disagreeing, just not sure, need investigated) ...

but i think it's madness, the mazda EV i can see is more expensive than the tesla and has half the range

the only other major difference is one is an SUV one is a sedan

maybe tesla need to make model 3 station wagon

that's a truck, not my cup of tea. i think EVs should be efficient, light, aero, designed to make good use of space. but maybe that's what people want. model 3 is much lighter, more aero.

I think you mean CUV/SUV rather than truck, but the CUV/SUV is kinda the modern day wagon. I think the market kinda decided that there wasn't room for both.

Customers can be so stupid.

Post Jan 1 registration doesn't make it a 22 model.

Car model years usually change around September.

Tesla - continual change.
