And yet almost every descriptor of a particular vehicle starts with its year of registration.
You are correct, but don't salespeople rely on customers being stupid?
I remember years ago living in the UK that a letter of the registration plate signified its year and there was always a rush to be the first to get a car "with this year's plate".

It'll be interesting to see what these changes do for the pricing of the Y when it arrives in NZ. The acceleration changes don't worry me, but price is more of a potential issue.

2022 Tesla Model Y: Rear-wheel-drive model updated in China...

Mirroring updates to the Model 3 sedan late last year, the 'base' Model Y – now known simply as the 'Model Y', replacing Tesla's Standard Range badge – now claims a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 6.9 seconds, down one and a half seconds from the outgoing model's 5.4-second claim...

Prices for the rear-drive model increased on January 1 by 21,088 Chinese yuan ($AU4650) to ¥301,840 ($AU66,500) – accompanied by double-glazed rear windows, a new lithium-ion 12-volt battery (rather than lead-acid), and a more powerful AMD Ryzen infotainment processor

Does it have the LFP battery? And can it squeak in under $80000?
The 2wd model hasn't been announced in RHD markets yet though has it? I would assume it will appear in the UK first.

The RHD/RWD Y has been available in HK since around the middle of last year (as discussed here), while still not an option in the UK

The Tesla agent when I took a 3 for a test drive said he recommends people look to the HK selection when working out what they want to order when the Y is finally released in NZ; while I guess that could be based on actual insider knowledge, I think it's more likely to be based on the released info on the models that were certified for sale in Aus back in Sept 21

The longer the delay of the release of the Y in NZ the more price increases there are likely to be o/s, the more I'm becoming doubtful they'll release the base model under $80k...

That would be good. By the time you add the additional charges it is still sub $80K* and allowing it to compete with the Ioniq5 and EV6.

The higher the price of the Tesla cars, the more likely it is Chinese EV makers will eat Tesla's future market share. My wife is very keen on an Ora Good Cat. Even the base 51kWh model has more range than an MG ZS EV and will almost certainly be cheaper. There are also 63kWh and 72kWh models. They will have more range than a Tesla that costs almost double. The base model will be about 2/3 the price of a base Model 3.

This is only the beginning.

BYD Han for me ;-).

If we are speculating if any Chinese OEMs can be bothered with the NZ market.
But where are you comparing prices? If it is China there may be a 'buy local' component to the pricing.

I would assume their target is anyone who isn't them.

Well, no, if you're in the market for a Model S Plaid or an Audi RS e-Tron GT then an Ora Good Cat is not really a fungible substitute...
