Dingbatt: BYD Han for me ;-).

If we are speculating if any Chinese OEMs can be bothered with the NZ market.
But where are you comparing prices? If it is China there may be a 'buy local' component to the pricing.

Australia. They are being sold there soon. Pricing has been announced. NZ seems to be coming, too. It's just a matter of when.

Dingbatt: jonathan18: .......2022 Tesla Model Y: Rear-wheel-drive model updated in China...

Does it have the LFP battery? And can it squeak in under $80000?
The 2wd model hasn't been announced in RHD markets yet though has it? I would assume it will appear in the UK first.

Yes it does have an LFP battery.

It may be closer to NZD81,500, but Tesla may take a hit on $1,510 and make it NZD79,990 (if released today), but it won't be released until a lot later, so prices will change again.

Ouch, that will leave me with an incredibly difficult decision - whether it’s worth forking out an additional >$10,000* to avoid having a white car! I doubt I’d be able to justify that at the time, but if so I’d imagine I’d look to stump up more and go with the dual motor long range instead.

(* Assuming about $2k for say the blue, plus the loss of the $8.5k subsidy.)

Linuxluver: …My wife is very keen on an Ora Good Cat. Even the base 51kWh model has more range than an MG ZS EV and will almost certainly be cheaper. There are also 63kWh and 72kWh models. They will have more range than a Tesla that costs almost double. The base model will be about 2/3 the price of a base Model 3.

This is only the beginning.

Yeah, I showed my wife the Good Cat and she thought it looked pretty decent - could well be an ideal replacement to her Leaf.

I was concerned by the relatively small boot (compared to a Leaf) but she doesn’t think that’s an issue. With two growing boys the bigger problem could be rear leg room…

Honestly get the white and get it wrapped? The white is a nice paint and who knows there may be a second free colour choice by then (like the US)

Yeah, wrapping is an option but that’ll eat up most if not all of that $10k - pretty sure the cost for a 3 is about $8k, yeah?

So a second base colour option would be the ideal solution! Even though my preference would be the blue, I’d be happy with the silver/grey that’s a standard option in the US.

$6K to wrap a Model 3. So a bit more for a Model Y. What puts me off that option is the wrap is only supposed to last about 3 years. Although I guess if you are bored with the colour by then it’s a good excuse for a change.

LDV eDeliver 3: New Zealand's cheapest all-electric van

Ecotricity NZ

"The LDV eDeliver 3 is the cheapest electric van in New Zealand at $56,913, offering 4.8 cubic metres of cargo space, a payload of 905 kg and a range of 250 kilometres per charge.

Sounds impressive, but what's it like in the real world? To find out, Gavin spent a day as a delivery driver, pushing the vehicle hard, with unexpected results."

I cannot even imagine how much a painter or a plumber would've charge me if they turned up in my driveway in such "cheapest" Van :)
P.S. Both were Pro, made a great job, reasonably priced and were driving old diesel Toyota Vans circa $3000 nowadays.
P.S. wonder who LDV are targeting in these economic disastersous cnditions when every small business is tight on costs.
Some say construction industry is on the rise. Perhaps. Recently a builder (who said he is as busy as never before) turned up in my driveway in a second hand Mazda diesel (sirca $20k).

The construction industry is booming. For tradespeople, these are *not* economic disaster conditions. The country is awash in money, and (wealthy) people are buying new houses (if they can even get one built) and renovating existing houses. Tradies have 6 months and more of work queued up, so for them the good times will go on for a while yet. So they are aiming to reduce their tax bills by buying capital items... i.e. buying new vehicles, hence a shortage of utes. (So, for car dealers, these are also great times. Likewise for boat and motorcycle and other big boy toy dealers). Which is why it's also a good time for LDV to push their EV van. From a tradie point of view, this is an opportunity to spend capital now (and reduce their tax) and in return have lower fuel and maintenance costs over the next few years (when times surely can't be as good as now).

Small battery van is $50k, claim the $7500 gst back, claim the $8625 rebate, not buy diesel or ruc for 3 years, have great resale value,  feel like a smug git, priceless.

I somehow don't think you understand the economics and practicalities of running a small business. For a start, how big is your small van and is its' size fit for purpose for a lot of tradies? That $50k you quote quickly becomes a much larger figure for a bigger van. A standard Hiace is 6.2 cubic metres so the LDV isn't a big van at 4.8 cubic metres and it's $56,000 with the rebate. That's pretty close to $50,000 once you take off GST.

For something like the LDV, a tradie has to come up with nearly $50,000 in readies or has to be able to convince someone to lend him/her that much money then they have to pay it back, usually within 3 years. They need cashflow to do that.

A $3000 dollar van even though you need to fill it with diesel is much much easier on the cashflow equation. That's why many people aren't rushing out to buy a flash shiny new electric van. I can think of operational reasons as to why a 250 km range van may not be all that attractive either.

I guess if they are cheeky enough, when they rock up to do the job they’ll say “Mate, do you mind if I plug my van in while I’m here?”.
